It's amazing how many people still use WEP, which can easily be hacked even though their equipment will handle WPA-PSK, which with a long random passphrase is secure. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

and i logged onto my router via website (my main router)...and changed the wireless passphrase on there...then uninstalled the wireless netgear software, rebooted pc...reinstalled software and when prompted my new passphrase worked, but still had limited connection...so next to passphrase on the netgear wireless window I hit 128 bits from drop down list ..hit apply then it all worked...if thats any help to anyone I don't knowBring back mark and lard NOW! or else (please) clique member no. 10 :j

As long as you realise that WEP is not that secure and WPA-PSK was developed to rectify the gaping holes in WEP. If your router supports WPA, you should use it. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I've also been having this problem, however, my security is currently turned off so its nothing to do with that.
My desktop pc is one i built myself and had been running fine on xp until a few days ago when i installed vista.
I am using a netgear wg111v2 adapter to connect to a Netgear DG834G which is running fine on main computer (XP) and another computer (XP) is also running fine on a different adapter.
At first although the UP TO DATE (vista enabled) driver was not installed properly the internet ran fine through windows own wireless networking.
However after a few days i started to get the limited connection.
I've uninstalled netgear and re installed it lots of times, once it worked and sorted the problem... but stopped working again. Another time it fixed itself
but stopped working AGAIN!!.
Then i made the decision to talk to the idiots at netgear, he told me to reinstall netgear and it worked for about a minute untill i hung up and it completely disconnected.
I've reinstalled endless times since and even done a system restore to back when it worked, it STILL is saying limited connection.
When i click on about on the netgear programn no ip address is showing.
Sorry this is so long but
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can some one help me!!!!! i use my computer a lot, especially the internet and this is driving me crazy  .0 -
when you say it works for a minute, do you mean you can surf for a minute and get allocated a 192 address, or it says connected for a minute but surfing address doesn't work
If the latter, it is usually down to encryption key or type being mismatched.
if the former, more likely a driver issue, or possibly signal problem/interference (but you presumably had no problem prevista)?
is your ssid being broadcast?
Is windows managing wireless, or netgear software, try windows.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
well originally it was connecting so i could surf the net for a minute, but not anymore. its just connected all the time but limited now.
Its nothing mistyped because i dont need to type anything
.
I have thought it might be a driver as when it resolved itself once it said something about a driver, but i've tried updating them all and it still doesnt work.
I have also tried running it off netgear and windows both having the same result.
