Best value flea and worm treatments for kitten

My vet charges £8-10 more than online prices for medications. BUT, if we want a prescription from them that we can use to order online, they charge £12 to write the prescription. So, overall, it's always very slightly cheaper (coincidentally) to just get medicines from them. :mad:

Anyway, going back to the original question... Fans of Advocate here. Our cat has always used it and has never had any fleas!

However, we have just switched to Broadline. We were using Advocate for fleas and Drontal tablets for worming, but getting him to take tablets is an absolute nightmare. We've tried everything, and the only thing that gets Drontal down is restraining him and using a pill popper which is upsetting for him and us. According to our vet, Broadline is the first monthly spot-on that does both fleas and worms. We're going to give it a go for six months. If he stays flea and worm free then happy days. If not we'll have to switch back and go through the Drontal trauma.

I've just looked it up online, ready to say you're wrong, and yep - it's a flea and wormer!

!!!!!!? Why has our kitty had both Advocate and Drontal since he was born? (We're his second owner - got him at 2 years old and continued with what the previous owner had given him on her vet's advice) And why did our vet suggest Broadline when we said we use Advocate but have trouble getting him to take Drontal?!

We've just started on a six-month box of Broadline so can't return it to the vet. Will switch back to Advocate afterwards if it covers all the same worms as Broadline. I'll just check its coverage.

I don't think advocate kills tapeworm where as drontal does, I've never had a problem though, well kitty hasn't, if I remember correctly broadline does treat tapeworm.

Thanks - the marketing blurb from Broadline says it treats the broadest range of parasites. I'll see how kitty gets on with Broadline - if he doesn't have any sort of reaction to it and remains flea/worm free we might stick with that rather than the Advocate/Drontal combo. Am tempted to ask vet how common tapeworm is though, and whether we could therefore use Advocate alone!
