Hi everyone,

My kitten is now 11 weeks old. Her next flea and worm treatment will be due when she is 13 weeks and I'm trying to decide which is the best flea and worm treatment to get for her. She had her last one at the vets when she had her first vaccination.

My mum has recommended Frontline for fleas but I was just searching online for bargains and there was some discussion about Frontline now being ineffective. Online reviews seem to say Effipro is good - is this ok for kittens?

What brands do you use? Where do you get it from for the best prices?

Go to the Vet and get hold of the prescription only stuff I'm afraid. Something like Stronghold. All the rest are pants now and the fleas seem to thrive on them so it's a waste of money. Something like Bob Martin is totally useless, you may as well be using lemon juice!!!

Once you've got your first dose from the Vet (after they weigh Kitty) ask for a prescription to take away with you and next time you re-order, go to one of the Vet Online websites and present your Script for a cheaper batch next time.

Or ignore all the (admittedly more expensive) suggestions here and get used to picking fleas off your cat, your clothes and your furniture for the next 16 years or so...

(Actually, there IS something satisfying about finding a flea and "popping" it between your fingernails :o)

I use Advantage for my two cats and Drontal tablet wormer. I buy them both from Pet Supermarket, and because my two are indoor cats they both only get done twice a year as a precaution. A twin pack of standard size worming tablets are only £1.43, and then the Advantage is less than £10. If you're treating one cat under 4kg, a years supply of both these things should only cost £30 at the recommended dose.

Advantage is very good, my cats had fleas when they were kittens and with one dose plus Indoorex flea spray, they were dead within three days.

ETA: you can get cashback from Pet Supermarket through Quidco too, as well as free delivery!

Effipro is exactly the same as Frontline and also Bob Martin Flea Clear. All equally ineffective. Better to get a prescription treatment from your vet, will work out much cheaper in the long run.

I use advocate which is one of the best. But its a faff as I have to get a prescription from the vets (costs around a tenner) then buy it online although it saves me over £20 on 6 vials from the vet.

Advocate does all my hoard lovely no issues at all after I found that frontline just wasn't doing the job any more. The other one my nan uses is Stronghold I think it's called that seems to work well.

Money maker what site do you use to get it I spend a fortune on the stuff?

Stay clear of ANY products from Bob Martin to do with fleaing or worming they are just so dangerous. My vet even has a huge sign up saying not to use them because he has seen how badly it can affect animals it's awful stuff and really should be banned.

I use http://www.animeddirect.co.uk/prescriptions/advocate-40-for-small-cats-up-to-4kg-pack-of-6.html animed direct, £20.75 for a pack of 6. Also use them for wormer tablets. All post free.

But it is a faff sorting out a prescription so looking to use a less powerful flea treatment on alternate months. Will look into advantage.

I use Advocate. I've signed up to a yearly plan with my vet that includes six monthly check ups, booster jabs and all flea and worming treatments. I thought this might just include the cheaper products so was pleasantly surprised that Advocate was included.

I spent over £90 on my first visit to the vet for initial jabs and 3 months" supply of Advocate. The yearly plan wasn't mentioned to me by the locum I saw on that occasion.

When I went back and saw the regular vet 3 weeks later we discussed the annual plan and she agreed to refund the amount I had already paid and gave me another 3 montgs' supply of Advocate.

The bonus was that Advocate covers everything except tapeworm and the tapeworm treatment only has to be administered every 6 months, which means the vet can give her the tablet when I take her for her checkup.

Looks like Pet Supermarket have gone bust!

Where are other good places to get flea and worm treatments online? Animed direct seems good. Is there anywhere else anyone would recommend?
