My Poor Dying Laptop...

My poor darling has not been well for a while, the bottom drops a little near the power supply and can be 'clicked' back into place, it overheats, the fan is very loud - louder than it used to be, it gives electric shocks and the power cable occasionally has to be twisted when the laptop has been moved to remind it that it's not on battery it's in the mains - also something has become 'loose' inside and rolls around inside audibly if you gently tilt it.
It's gone back to Fujitu Siemens (Went on Tuesday) to be looked at, but my question is - do I have to accept a repair?
If it wasn't the power supply and the electric shocks I wouldn't mind, but I'm very nervous to accept a 'mended' one back incase it happens again or gets worse and results in fire/serious injury or worse.
Am I over reacting and it'll be fine, or should I (Can I) stick my neck out for a replacement laptop.
Any advice gratefully recieved, thank you!
Edit: Should have said - we bought it 7th December 06 and it's gone back as part of it's warranty thingydoofah... yes.

Possibilities:
The loose panels could be due to screws having fallen out? I have several loose on mine but haven't got around to buying the necessary screws to replace them.
Overheating/fan noise - dust in the fan vents/blocked fan vents? Try compressed air or a strong vacuum cleaner. Also make sure power cables aren't block the fan vents which is easily done and not often noticed.
Power connector not connecting: the weight of the power supply might be pulling down on the connector (particularly if used on your lap). I had this, and they replaced the power supply to one with an L-Shaped connector rather than a scraight one. this 'clicks' into place and does not pull down on the connector. Problem solved.
H.Know me for who I am, not for who I say I am.0 -
Avoid vacuum cleaning PC's, there's a risk of static buildup whoch won't do your PC any good at all. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Hey

Thanks for the advice, but the laptop is already back with Fujitsu and they're doing their tests and stuff with it, I'm ringing at three to see if there's any updates. Was just wondering if they offered a replacement, am I within my rights to refuse it and ask for a replacement because of the power faults etc?0 -
It may be worth checking through your receipt and warranty for info about repair of replacement. Check the makers website too as many companies have a support forum, you may find that others are in the same predicament as yourself, how did they resolve the problem ?0

Thank you

managed to speak to someone for about half an hour today and they said that the fan had been fitted incorrectly which meant that it had also damaged the motherboard.
According to 'Keith', they have already made and fitted a new motherboard and they are now trying to source a fan (which could take up to a month, not happy at all!). He admitted that it would have been more cost and time effective to actually scrap it and send out a new one, but as they are a repair center it's all they can do, they would have to refer it on elsewhere, but Fujitsu have the policy of 'if you can mend it, mend it!!'.
So they're largely returning a a new laptop, 'cept for the battery/dvd drive/monitor/outer casing.
Crazy people :rolleyes:0 -
LOL. Same thing is happening with XBox 360's that are returned to MS for the 3 red "Ring of Death".0

Does anyone have any idea who to complain to about the repair center please?
Or rather one woman who doesn't know her !!!! from her elbow who got very snotty with both me and my mother this morning.
I had to attend hospital and my mother made the call to check on it for me as we hadn't heard anything for a few days and she was very concerned by what this woman was telling her - I'd returned my original box/all the original bags and other packaging as the fujitsu helpline had said before putting me through to the repair center. this morning mum rang and was told that the original box had gone missing - complete with covering letter and credit card details on the end of the reciept and this woman was adamant that I wouldn't have bene told to return everything (including formatting disks) and was sure that she would trace the calls and find no evidence of this. I'd hardly send back what I didn't had to  I love my laptop, with being uinable to work at the minute because of heart problems, I'd hardly want to further my stress by having her preach at me.
She was told that the box could possibly have been sent back with someone elses machine in it and mum was horrified that this could happen after I'd looked after my laptop so well. When she told me what had been said, what could have happened and how she'd been talked to I was furious and rang back to talk to the woman who assured me that the box had been found and all but told me I was stupid for sending it - when I'd been told to send it by fujitsu! She was very short and very nasty with me and as I hung up, I realised I hadn't caught her name, but I hope that with being able to trace the calls - and I'd made a note of the time etc - they could narrow it down to fwork out who that nasty piece of work was.
... but yes, I digress. Does anyone know any email addresses for high up people in fujitsu please? (will send a copy of the email thruogh the post too) and would it be best to send it to the repair center or the main fujitsu place? I don't want to ring back and have her deal with me, I have the feeling that she wouldn't let it go through further.
Thanks

Three weeks in, having that woman be rude, being passed from pillar to post, being told parts weren't in when they were, different things said by different people, being told for the past two days and at 9am this morning that it was sat there waiting to be dispatched when I've just been told that it's actually not, it's waiting for a part which will be in the next couple of days.
Had enough and asked for the manager who's ringing back after her lunch.
Please, save yourselves the heart ache and trouble dealing with them. Do NOT buy Fujitsu Siemens. They tell you what you want to hear and to hell with what is really happening.0
