Just open and re-save them as JPEG (.jpg) at whatever resolution is appropriate (e.g. 72 ppi).

On my Mac I can do this using "Preview" or "iPhoto" or "PhotoShop" or "Graphic Converter" or...

If you are using some other OS, there's bound to be a few applications that you can use.

For the future, your scanner software almost certainly has a "Save as" preference that you can change to JPEG. However, you might still need to reduce the resolution to 72 ppi. This is perfect for web sites such as facebook.

If you want to print photos, you'll need 200 ppi (small) to 300 ppi (magazine cover). That's "pixels per inch" by the way.

I already scanned some photos that don't have this problem I looked at the PDF but I have not been able to change It all seems very complicated
I am glad to have them saved on my computer Some of them are portraits taken of my Daughter and Son taken when they were children

    Thanks again Sue

Your text would be easier to understand if you separated sentences with full stops. Frankly, it's rude not to make it easy for us.

Changing a file type isn't at all complicated. You simply open the file then save it, making sure that you choose JPEG as the file type. (Obviously the Application you use must support this feature.)

I listed some of the Apps that I use on my Mac with OSX. If you are using some other Operating System then there's certain to be more than one App available that will do the job. Divulge what OS you are using and someone familiar with that OS, hopefully, will advise on the best/simplest App. (If you don't know how to download and install an App, you'd better say so now.)

Also, if you are storing important images, please be sure to keep at least two additional backup copies on different media. Losing irreplaceable images ain't nice.

If you really want to be pedantic, never start a sentence with a sentence conjunction. What on earth is this - "ain't" ?

Sorry I have not put the full stopsbin. I start a sentence with a capital letter.
I would have thought that you might read it in that way.
I do apologised for the error of my ways.

And he's right, if someone wants help, he/she should make it not too hard to read for people who potentially could help. If I have to read a post several times to understand it, then I just might hit the back button of my browser and move on...

Nah, it was actually pretty rude to call someone rude and deserved to be poked fun at. Ignorance is not rudeness.

A simple "perhaps next time you post it would be easier to read if you used full stops, thanks"

    Given it's Susan1942 - could be 73 years old.

Thank you for pointing out that I am actually 73. Not a problem for me !
I use this site for help when I get stuck with things. The people on these forums are for the most part very helpful and I do appreciate it.
Yes I do know how to download an App. I do it on my Tablet.
I have rescanned the photo's I wanted to use. I used the Quick Menu which is simpler to use.
Thanks again for your help everyone and I do apologise for the lack of full stops. Lesson learned!
    Sue
