Short Assured Tenancy expires soon (Scotland)

My short assured 6 months lease expires soon.
I asked my landlord about a new lease but he told me after the expiry of the current lease it will just revert to to a periodic lease and i dont need to worry about anything. I was also told that as usual he needs to give me 2 months notice to leave and i have to give him 1 months notice if i decide to leave.
Is this the case or should i tell him i need another 6 months lease so i feel more secure?
I have read that what he says is the case but i have also read that should the lease expire it will automatically revert to another 6 months lease and i can only get 2 months notice after 4 months of that new lease has been and gone. If this was the case then i know i have at least another 4 months before i can get any notice to leave plus a further 2 months notice time.
Can anyone clarify this for me please

Don't confuse a Short Assured Tenancy in Scotland with an Assured Shorthold Tenancy in England.
What does your tenancy agreement say will happen at the end of your tenancy, if anything?0 -
Is your landlord English? He is referring to English law applying to an AST.
you are in Scotland and have a SAT. It is not the same.Your tenancy agreement will say how long you have rented the property for, for example, six months or a year. At the end of that time, your tenancy will automatically renew itself unless:- you give the landlord written notice that you want to leave at the end of the tenancy (see 'what if I want to leave' below), or
- your landlord gives you written notice that they want you to leave the property.
If neither you nor your landlord has given notice, your tenancy will renew itself. This will be for the same length of time, unless your tenancy agreement says that it will be for a different period.0 -
Would it help if i upload my tenancy agreement?
It does say assured shorthold tenancy but i know for a fact the landlord is in Scotland and is Scottish as its a friend of someone i know and their address is not far from here.0 -

(I only asked if your LL was English because he has quoted English law at you, so may be ignorant about how it operates in Scotland).
Quote us the clause (if any) in the contract that says what happens when the fixed term ends.

Yes where is the property you are renting, that's the important part. If you are in Scotland then you can't have an AST. If all you've been given is an AST and you're in Scotland then you might very well have an Assured Tenancy. Good for you not so good for your landlord.0

Theres nothing to say what happens at the end of the term.
I read this on the link i was provided on an earlier post so i am now thinking i have automatically got a further 6 months Short Assured. What if the landlord decides to provide me with another lease after the 31st July when this one ends and offers only a month to month lease, can i say that he needs to give me another 6 months as its not in the current lease after it expires it will go onto month to month.

Will you please tell us where YOU are located? It's the location of the property that you are renting that is important, not the nationality or location of your landlord. The advice you need is totally dependent on you answering that question.0

Then you do not in anyway, shape or form have an AST. You might have a SAT if your LL gave you an AT5 form before you signed a tenancy agreement. Then again AT5 form or not I think you have an Assured Tenancy.0
