MARTIN LEWIS and Team

What is going on with HSBC? They have offered this great account with a deal to attract people...but I have yet to come across anyone who has successfully obtained an account after applying online? I thought I would do a thread so you can help us all and get on the case!

Cheers Mate!

    The HSBC website says:
    Sole account
It only takes a few minutes to complete your application online for a sole HSBC Advance Bank Account
Existing HSBC customers must apply by phone or in branch

So, it seems to depend on whether you are an existing customer and whether your account is sole or joint.

    Also
Unfortunately, at the current time switching to the HSBC Advance Bank Account cannot be done online

But that's just the switching bit.

The OP might be better referencing the long existing thread on this at https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5273638 rather than starting a new one.

Plus I'm fairly certain just posting on here won't get to Martin quickly - better to write to someone specific rather than post in the general forum: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumteam.php

If it's the HSBC Advance Bank Account that the OP is referring to, it appears that it's not possible to switch online to this account. From http://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/current-accounts/hsbc-advance/how-to-apply#contact:

"Unfortunately, at the current time switching to the HSBC Advance Bank Account cannot be done online. "

HSBC's website otherwise appears to allow online applications for this account, although it reports that the large volume of applications may result in online applicants experiencing delays.

I have this account, I didn't actually apply for it, I've been a HSBC customer for almost 10 years and they upgraded my account because I paid in the amount required for the HSBC Advanced account every month.

The banks have a right to choose the customers they want. I for example didn't get their credit card because of my self employed status and the fact I haven't done my tax return for last year yet. If I wanted the credit card (only available to HSBC Advance customers) then I would have had to provide either a contract of permanent employment, or a self assessment tax return in branch.

HSBC have the right to be picky with their best accounts.

Applying for an account is quite different to switching to an account. They are two entirely separate processes.

Really? I have never had to provide anything other than my employers address. HSBC must be strict.

There should be a sticker on the card with a number.
    call this to activate it.

Then phone HSBC on any of their contact numbers to set up telephone banking.

After you have set up telephone banking you use the number(between 6 and 10 digits)that you create to register on line for internet banking.
