Currys Microwave Con

I bought a £80 Russell Hobbs Microwave from Currys 14 months ago,and last week the turntable stopped working, light went out and only works intermittently.I phoned Russell Hobbs and they said that as they didnt manufacture the microwave there was nothing they could do ,and that they just licenced the name to Currys I have looked at the instruction manual and it dosent state where the microwave was manufactured.I thought by law that any goods manufactured had to have manufactured country made aware to buyers. I phoned Currys and all they were prepared to do was refund me Vouchers for £40,but when I went to Currys to look around the only Microwaves on show were Russell Hobbs,Kenwood(which I suspect is another Currys licenced name, and Panasonic which are very expensive. Does anyone know if I can insist on a full refund or a replacement as I think that they are in breach of the Sale of Goods Act re satisfactory quality

  • I doubt they would ever issue you with with a full refund or replacement after 14 months. I might be wrong but I thought most standard electrical warranties only cover 12 months, or do you have an extended one with them?
    Make £5 per day in August= £100/£155
    Paid MS- £5+ £10 GR, £5 RE, £15 MS
    £65 ebay profit
    Waiting on payment- E160 BAI

    Currys Microwave Con

Its not a Con though! its how companies work!
They dont have to give you a full refund for something you have had for 14 months that has stopped working! they wouldnt make any money!!

The issue lies with the manufacturer.

I think Currys have been very good to offer you that much. The way trading standards would look at is that £80 for 14 months to reasonable time. In terms of microwaves, that price is quite cheap to be honnest.

Does anyone know if I can insist on a full refund or a replacement as I think that they are in breach of the Sale of Goods Act re satisfactory quality

You cannot insist on a full refund no, there offer is very good.

I'm sorry but in this case I do agree with Butlers.
The machine is most probably outside of its 12 month guarantee so i doubt you're entitled to anything from them. Just treat yourself to a new one (there's a russel hobbs one online for 39.99) and think of it as a bonus.

Mmmm I also agree with Butlers I think that is the best you are going to get unless your prepared to go to small claims court and I doubt its worth it even if you were to win

Yep, I'm interested in how this meets the definition of a con?

Sounds like a real simple fault to me why not take to a small repair shop? LOL if you can get the vouchers and somehow keep the microwave you will be quids in!

I dont see the con - I'm no fan of Curry's but you should be grateful that they've offered you a single penny.

Harsh - but thats how I see it
