If you do, then it can work out a good option, especially if you learn to play the games.
I must admit, only recently I started going to "nicer" restaurants. Next year I hope to travel more as I Have not really had a holiday for about 10 years or so
I applied Yesterday and got approved. Stag weekend in Vegas next year, so I'm guessing Ill get my travel bug after that0 -

Nope applied as a new card. Didn't know you could do that lol0 -
Platinum card is very expensive isn't it - not sure what Martin Lewis would think of paying so much for a credit card - but I must admit I've had one for years and found the insurance, airport lounge access really handy. I've also used the concierge service to book me good tables at top restaurants for special occasions, I don't think I could have done that any other way.0

I got my Gold card in June. Reached the bonus MR points so applied to upgrade Gold to Platinum last week. They said they couldn't do an instant decision. I'm now waiting for them to give me their 'final' decision...
I have a Platinum credit card with a 10K limit. Waiting for the cashback owed to be paid to me in September and will be cancelling that one.
I also want to get a BA card to take advantage of the increased bonus so I hope they approve me for all!0 -

Martin, from a professional standpoint anyway, is not against spending money but is about maximising value. He's an associate of an associate but never talked about him to get any more insights.
The challenge with things like the Platinum card is how to value the perks. So I stayed in a nice hotel using their FHR scheme and on a cash basis it saved me about £250 from memory however the hotel bumped us from a mid grade room to a top level suit which would have cost another £3,000 for the stay. So did they save us £250 or £3,250? We would never have paid to stay in that room so it feels disingenuous to claim the £3k but we did enjoy the suit and so not to add anything for it equally feels wrong.
If you cannot achieve the same result, or at least the parts of the result you really want, with another product/ another way for less money then its good value. If you can do it cheaper then it isnt.
It evidently needs to come with a health warning that you need to be staying in top tier hotels, taking a fair number of flights a year etc for it to actually work out beneficial0
