Amex Platinum

Hey I've just applied for the Amex Platinum charge card and hopefully I get it. I just want to know since I already have the gold card (2 months) and the green card (10 months) would this decrease my chance of being accepted? Also every time i do apply they always say they need more time for a decision.

If I do get accepted for the platinum card I will be cancelling the green card as I will be using the gold for personal expenses and platinum for business expenses.

Thanks in advance for any help

Last month I opened a Green Charge Card, Platinum Credit Card, British Airways Credit Card and a Nectar Credit Card. This month I applied for the Gold Charge Card and was accepted.

They also said they needed more time to decide, got email 2 days later saying I was accepted.

Total credit given across cards was £9k - No previous relationship with AmEx.

Slightly OT, but you both opened the green charge card the the gold? Doesn't that make you ineligible for the 20k MR sign up bonus?

Amex allows you to split your total credit limit (across all Amex cards) in whatever proportion you wish amongst those cards, for general info

They will simply consider their total exposure to you as well as the general affordability across all cards you hold. The fact they have 10 months direct experience of your spending/ paying patterns can go either way depending on how good you've been at both.

Why use the Plat card for business spend and the PRG for personal? Generally the PRG will earn more MR than the Plat so surely push all you can on it?

Wow, you seem to all love Amex. Do you hold shares? ;)

I've had the Platinum Credit Card for almost 10 years. Recently applied for Gold and got it. Waiting for my cashback on the plat before cancelling it. Will then go for the BA PP card when I have collected my points from my free Gold card and ensure I can meet the minimum spend for the first 3 months of the BA PP card to collect bonus BA miles.

At present they offer the best rewards in the UK, in the US some aimed more at the MNW/ HNW market are arguably better but their UK equivalents dont seem to be trying to lure people with reward cards.

Everyday I keep tempting myself with upgrading my Gold card to the Platinum. But the benefits it gives are not really beneficial to me.
I should really just stick to my Plat cashback card but it's nice having no "limit" on the card. 8K in a week, which was reimbursed to me by a friend; I did however have to ring Amex just to let them know that I was making a large purchase.

I totally agree with you, InsideInsurance. I got my first Amex in 2004 - it was the Blue card with 0.5% cashback. Ever since though I have managed to collect so many rewards, as well as cashback.

My current goal is going to be a stash of BA miles to use on a long distance trip at some point in the future.

Unless you like travelling/ staying in top tier hotels/ going to high end restaurants with moderate regularity there is really no point in paying £450 a year for the Platinum card.

If you do, then it can work out a good option, especially if you learn to play the games.
