"USB device is not recognised"

  • My phone batteries are 2.96Wh@ 3.7V

This is the bit I don't understand.

If it were a Smartphone, with a memory card, I could understand my PC not recognising them/requesting drivers, but they're not Smartphones.

Because your phones aren't smart phones DOES make sense to bring up that message. You've plugged in a device to your computer that you can't access, it's not made me to read on a computer, so your computer doesn't recognise it.

It will still charge, but you just need to either find a way to make it default to 'take no action' when that device is plugged in, or just live with the message.

I looked up your phones. Both have 800mah batteries so would charge in a couple of hours or so from flat on 500ma USB which is presumably why you say you are happy to make do without a charger/

As you say there is no connectivity at all so I'm unsure why you see the message as most "dumb" USB power drains like vacuums, glitter lights, and other pound shop tat don't usually give problems.

And yet my Vivitar Camcorder doesn't produce any messages, when plugged in for charging

Exactly. My Vivitar Camcorder doesn't throw up any messages.

    Bob,

have you downloaded samsung Kies as this will probably pull in the correct USB driver for your phones:

    http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/#none

NB get Kies and not Kies 3, Kies 3 is smartphone only and yours are feature phones.

  • I don't see that I need a driver, as my phones aren't Smartphones.

Your phones are presenting themselves as USB devices to the OS but the OS doesn't know what to do with them as there is no associated driver with their USB device ID hence the error code.
