If you are syncing through your google account then when you reinstall after uninstalling it all your installed plugins and certainly most settings should be restored to what you have elsewhere/had.

The only reason I didn't suggest a re-install which would have been my instinct was because in one of the threads I read on this problem somebody said it had made no difference for them. Don't let that put you off trying though. Those having any success were playing around with sync options.

Somebody made a blog post based on the content of one thread about a similar sort of issue with some extensions not surviving into a new session. It all seems to be down to a corrupt user profile.

    http://superuser.com/questions/519300/extensions-disappear-when-i-close-and-open-google-chrome

    https://rendezvouswithpavan.wordpress.com/2012/12/19/are-your-google-chrome-extensions-disappearing-out-of-nowhere-heres-a-temporary-fix/

If you haven't tried that I'd suggest giving it a go.

Before you posted kwikbreaks, I removed all my add-on's totally, then via google webstore, re-installed only three of the six originals, so I have adblock plus, abc spellchecker and facebook messenger. The other three, bookmark manager/adblock pro/avast I have left off. Once this was done, I re-started chrome and the add-on's were enabled.

I'm not going to get too excited. Will shut down all together, then start up. Then read your post.

PS, I did that, clicked on chrome icon, saw three pop-up's stating each of those add-on's had crashed, the blue page came up "he's dead jim", reloaded, looked at add-on's and needed to enable.

    Over to you.

Hmm.. the crashing seems to be something new. On the basis of the original I'd suggest...

If they are there when Chrome is up and vanish/stop running after you close/opn it has to be something to do with syncing and I think that must be controlled by the chrome user profile.

First thing I'd try is removing extensions from the sync process - chrome://settings/syncSetup
If that fixes it fine if not it may be worth recreating the user profile - https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/142059?hl=en-GB
but that will lose bookmarks. There is a suggestion on saving them in the answer but you could back them up first as belts and braces - https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/96816?hl=en-GB

I'm not at all sure any of that is valid now though and would certainly go for a full uninstall/re-install of chrome first.

All the above is educated guesswork. Proceed at your own risk.

Before I embark on this, without having a good think, it has only been about ten days since I carried out a factory reset. With only IE, I sought out a chrome download and have that. Those crash pop-up's started then, this was followed by a week clear but only returned today. As I say, some thought for this afternoon. am synced to ipad and phone (android).
