Malware and Auslogics questions

I thought I would run the programs in the Malware thread and I see it has changed since I last used it. I think it used to have AVG, but this has changed to Spywareantivirus.
Should I remove AVG and then instal superantispyware?
Also, I had a problem in the past. AusLogicsBoostspeed was suggested as a solution and it resolved the problem. I now get a screen come up when I log in saying do I want to purchase it as the trial ended.
What is the cost of it, and is it something that I should run regularly.
Sorry, one last question. I have an Orange live box and the pc is linked via an ether cable. I think that the tv screen icon in the bottom right corner has changed. It seems to have a ball rununning backwards and forwards below it and every thirty seconds or so a red X comes up on it. I am sure that this is new. I spoke to Orange, but they seemed to think it was ok because I was still linked to the internet.
Should I be worried about this?
I am not a techie, and would appreciate simple answers
Many thanks for your help

I've never read the malware sticky thread before, so am not sure whats changed, but I'm assuming you mean you have AVG antivirus (free) seeing as most people here do... If you have AVG antivirus, then you do not need to remove it to install SuperAntiSpyware.
Re: livebox issue... I donot have a clue, never installed it.0 -
Thanks for the reply skiddy2k.
Sorry for the confusion on the AVG question. I think AVG has changed to SuperAntivirus because of AVG charging (I could be wrong).
My question was really around should I change AVG so that I can follow the instructions in the post to the letter, or should I use AVG, as I have currently got it, in place of SAv
Many thanks0 -
RE your live box question, that moving ball appears when the system is acquiring the network address.
Next time it happens, hover your mouse over the 'tv screen' to see what is going on.0 -

Thanks Nicolai.
I hovered the pointer over the icon and the status is "aquiring network address"
Does this mean a problem as the status keeps going from "aquing ... " to "not connected". I would say the latter lasts about 2-3 seconds and the former 20-30 seconds.
It doesn't give me any other problems other than a slight reduction in speed. For instance I am signed on to MSE and I am not being removed when the status goes to "not connected".
This has been like this for a 3 or 4 days now, but not sure when it started.0 -
Do you have a wireless card in your PC?
Does the 'tv screen' have these at the side: ))) ? (increasing in size?)0 -

Yes, the wireless card is in the pc
The tv screen has the brackets next to it when the ball is rolling, but they are so faint that I almost missed them. When the red X is showing they are bolder
.Thanks0 -
Ok then. What that is is that it is trying to connect via wireless and failing, as you are already connected via ethernet. If you don't want to connect via wireless (no need as ethernet is ok) then you could disable the wireless card via device manager0

I have always had the pc linked via the cable, and never noticed this before.
I have tried to find the wireless card in control panel, system properties, click on the hardware tab, hardware, device manager, but I can't find anything in there relating to the wireless card.
Am I doing this right?0 -
Easiest way is to right click the icon, it should give you the option to disable it.0

Thanks for your patience there Nicolai, its gone now.
Did anybody have any thoughts on the AVG or the AusLogics questions?0
