Why do people spray deodorant round in public changing rooms?

Nope, it's when people actively spray their underarms with deodorant after taking a shower, you can see the haze spreading around them, and if I'm unfortunate enough to be there at the time, it 'gets' me. Takes a good five minutes before I feel I can breathe properly again. Really what I'd like to do is leave the room for those five minutes, but I'm usually in a state of undress ...
It is a small changing room. There are no windows.
I know it's partly just me, I don't use pressurised sprays at all, but do other people not realise the spray spreads out all over the place?
I don't think it is just you. You shouldn't spray aerosols unless it's in a ventilated space. We learnt this in our art class when we had to use fixative spray to fix our pastel drawings. We usually used hairspray because it was cheaper, lol, but you weren't supposed to spray them in the class room, you had to go outside.
If people are spraying deodorant sprays in a confined space I dread to think what you are breathing in. They should have a rule preventing them from doing that, really.The report button is for abusive posts, not because you don't like someone, or their opinions0 -

I can't use a stick deodorant due to disability (you'd be surprised at the number of people who can't even though we look perfectly normal) and use enough hairspray to tame my frizzy mane as I'm not taking my £100 GHDs to the gym for them to get nicked.
Learn to cope with it, its a free country.
You might want to look at what's actually IN your deodorant spray before you sound off about your right to spray it over everybody else!
Here, for example:
Butane-Isobutane-Propane, Cyclopentasiloxane, Aluminum Chlorohydrate, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Parfum/Fragrance, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Dimethicone, Caesalpinia Spinosa Gum, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Limonene, Sucrose Stearate, Linalool, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Silica, Citronellol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Coumarin, Gossypium Herbaceum (Cotton) Powder, Geraniol, BHT
There are health and environmental concerns about a lot of the ingredents on that list, CYCLOPENTASILOXANE for instance
http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ingredient/701741/CYCLOPENTASILOXANE/
Toxic to health and the environment. Possibly carcinogenic. Endocrine disruption a concern.
You use whatever you want, it's your body, but please don't spray it all over the rest of us.The report button is for abusive posts, not because you don't like someone, or their opinions0 -

I totally sympathise OP, although I would expect this to some extent in a changing room. What really gets my goat, and I have to put up with it every damned day, is people spraying perfume, body spray and deodorant in our open plan office at work. I am then stuck having to sit and breathe it in - I can't just leave as I'm at work.
Breathing in this stuff brings on my allergy induced asthma and hay fever type symptoms. I have tried really politely and nicely to ask people not to do this, but they treat you as though you are being deliberately awkward and trying to make their lives difficult. I am so sick of it, I've tried bringing it up with management but no one takes it seriously at all.
I really don't understand why anyone thinks it's ok to spray these things in an open plan office, it's so inconsiderate and unnecessary.0 -
I don't think people who use spray deodorants really realise how strong they are, i find if my oh has sprayed his deodorant on in the same room as me I feel really choked up.0

spray deodorants give me asthma attacks too.. I have a lot of bowel surgery and because of the embarrassing smells, patients spray loads of deodorant in the air and it triggers my asthma so badly.Many thanks to all who contribute on MSE0

And here's what's in shower gel;
Sodium C12-13 Pareth Sulfate (*A) / Sodium Laureth Sulfate (*B), Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Glycerin, Sodium Chloride, Parfum, Cocamide MEA, Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer, Sodium Salicylate, Sodium Benzoate, Polyquaternium-7, Citric Acid, Tetrasodium EDTA, Glycol Distearate, Laureth-4, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Cocos Nucifera Fruit Extract, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Benzyl Salicylate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Citronellol, Coumarin, Geraniol, Linalool
Washing liquid;
15-30% Anionic surfactants; 5-15% Non-ionic surfactants, Soap; <5% Phosphonates; Enzymes, Optical brighteners, Benzisothiazolinone, Perfumes, Benzyl salicylate, Citronellol, Eugenol, Geraniol,
Linalool.
Toothpaste;
Sorbitol, Aqua, Hydrated Silica, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Aroma, PEG-12, Cellulose Gum, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Fluoride, Sodium Saccharin, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Menthol, Glycerin, Limonene, CI 42090, CI 77891
And hairspray;
Alcohol Denat., Butane, Propane, Isobutane, Octylacrylamide/Acrylates/Butylaminoethyl Methacrylate Copolymer, Aqua, Aminomethyl Propanol, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Parfum, Linalool, Triethyl Citrate, Benzyl Salicylate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Limonene, Hexyl Cinnamal, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Geraniol, Citronellol.
Beware the evil, evil chemicals!! Or rather, beware the scaremongerers whose little knowledge can be a dangerous thing. Oh and the reason that spray deoderants make us cough is because they contain micronized particles that when breathed in, cause physical irritation to the throat/lungs, and trigger the reflex reaction of coughing to remove them - not necessarily because the chemicals contained within are harming you.Remember Occam's Razor - the simplest explanation is usually the right one.

I try to use only the smallest possible amount since I myself don't like smelling a cloud of perfume that someone else made. It makes me nauseous when it all mixes together.0

There are many, many products that contain harmful chemicals, of course. But that's not a reason not to try and avoid them.
It's like saying sugar is in everything so what's the point in trying to avoid it. Or smoke is everywhere so why bother giving up smoking.
Go though the list of ingredients above and you'll see that many of them are in fact harmful to health or the environment (usually both).The report button is for abusive posts, not because you don't like someone, or their opinions0 -
