Mifi

Hi all

How difficult is it to unlock a 3 mifi . If it is possible is just a case of sticking in a sim as you would with a normal mobile phone .

  • What do you mean by unlock?

If you mean it's tied to a certain network (eg. 3), then bunging in a different company's sim isn't going to work.

    Are you sure it's locked?

    >> HUKD: High-Speed MiFi Pay As You Go + 3 - £84.99 @ Three (3 Mobile)
I got the last model the 585 for about £35 inc a month of internet, I must say its very well designed, connects to everything I've tried and is very fast, think I was getting 2-3 mb. Managed to unlock mine for free using instructions on the internet as the little indian phone shop said they could not do it, think they are missing trick myself as it only took 20 mins.
It was just a random thread - one of many if you search HUKD for 'three mifi'.

Depends on the model, but usually often as simple as sending the IMEI to the network (or a 3rd party ebay seller) and getting a code.

When you put another networks SIM card in it will ask for the subsidy code, enter that and if its right it unlocks.

To that extent its the same as a mobile, but you may need to log on to the device to enter the code via a we browser.

Some may have their firmware customised and not offer the normal vendor menus but its more or less the same process.

What make/model is it? And some Three Devices now come unlocked you may want to try a different network sim card before buying an unlock code.
  • Do you currently own the MiFi modem, or are you asking before buying it?

depends on the model, most can be unlocked for a 99p code on ebay, others can be unlocked for free.

its a simple case of putting a different network sim in, going to the dashboard on your computer and putting in the code and it'll unlock

I have a locked to vodaphone mifi, an impulse buy. Never used it, it's taking up space in a cupboard, suppose I could sell it or pawn it, either way, it only cost about £30

Why buy a locked MiFi

Mine being unlocked, no matter where I go in Europe, I can pop in a local sim and browse the net, for a fraction of what I would pay, if I used my UK sim.

Why buy a locked mifi?. I was with vodaphone at the time. Vodaphone wouldn't have anything to do with me as I had bought it from Argos and Argos don't take some things back, this was one of those things.

For the same reasons as why buy a locked handset - to save money.
Locked devices are normally much cheaper than not locked, but are often very cheap to unlock.
Very often the total cost of a locked device with a contract is much cheaper than sim-free plus sim-only.

How much of a saving are we talking about here?
