the point was that the dealer failed to mention it. Not what had caused it.
To be honest, why should I have investigated the fault or tried to fix it?

different system, never known seat belt connections trigger abs warning

:D That'll be because for some reason, even though I clearly read ABS, I had Airbag warning light in my head hence I posted a load of bollox :o

The point is, you drove away and he didn't know you had a phantom fault. Unlike such, "quality" makes where warning lights come on when the engine is already hanging out, VAG for example, v/x are far too ready to throw on lights. Classic, as it appears you have, is that when a car has been generally inactive, in storage or battery low because of frequent start, no charge cycles, the system in its self-check believes there will be insufficient battery feed to operate the abs system, so flags up a fault until the battery is recharged.
Keep an eye on it and make sure it isn't just this that is putting the light on.

As Colino points out, one of the most common reasons for an ABS warning is a weak battery. If it was sitting at the dealer for a while the battery would likely have been low. Driving the car for a while normally sorts a low battery out (unless the battery is goosed).

when I phoned the dealer a day after buying he said he forgot to mention the light.....
He only got the car in PX the day before so it wasn't sat on the forecourt for ages though could have been idle before he got it.

First port of call is, of course, the dealer. If he refuses to repair, then reject the car.
If he still refuses to play ball, then you always have the S.75 reclaim to fall back on.

    Thanks,

Bloody light is back on again.
Lost all faith in the car as well as the dealer.

Wish I had just had another engine put in my focus now......

At least I know my rights ;)
  • I dont really think an s.75 is going to get you anywhere.

The s.75 can be used where the problem/fault is not one you would usually expect for the cars age and milage.

You trying to claim that an ABS light should not appear on a 12 year old car........
2 hopes, Bob Hope and no hope.

I would be claiming the car is not as described as the dealer said it was in perfect running order with no faults or problems.
Only later he said he forgot to mention the light was on.
Some other age related faults are also present that he failed to mention.
