new build house building query

Hi,
If you are buying a new build house and it is at the "plastering" stage, would you expect the legal completion date to be the end of August?
We have to give 4 weeks notice to the landlord to move out and want to make sure we get it right. The developer seem sure it will be but just want to ask around here as well if this stage is normal to complete in 6 weeks.
Thanks in advance

Our new build is pretty much at that stage. Still needs the kitchen in, tiling, wardrobes fitting etc etc. The road was only just started this week but yet we have been told to expect to move in within the week to 10 days0

Have you exchanged contracts?I am not a cat (But my friend is)0 -
the solicitor has asked for the deposit, but we are waiting to read the contract which has been posted before we do.
hopefully we will pay and give back the contract tomorrow!
And yes, having an overlap is much better but you don't really want to be paying for both rent and mortgage for too longi'd be happy with a week to allow us to move out with ease.

Do you not have a confirmation of completion 10 working days before? I would only give notice at that point...
Although, I seem to recall reading that your notice period runs from calendar month to calendar month based on payment date anyway. So the amount of rent and mortgage at the same time may depend on that... I haven't privately rented in years though, so going on things I've read here.

Developers can move at a very fast pace once contracts are exchanged. As there'll allocate resources to finish the property as quickly as possible.0 -

Ok thanks. This makes me feel a bit better.
I received the contract from the solicitors and been trying to read through it before signing and giving it in (my god there is so much!) but there was no clear completion in there.
Obviously things can go wrong. My dad strongly suggested we ask if we can get a guarantee in writing that the developer would pay a penalty if they do not meet the date agreed - can this be done?
I dont want to over step my mark, but I dont want to have this burden hanging over my head the whole time either.0
