BT Broadband Mistake?

I think I made a costly error in April, but interested in this forum's opinions!
I have BT infinity option 2, coupled with line rental saver (paid a year in advance in APril). This comes to £27.65 + £15.29 = £42.94/month. Comparable deals with plusnet and sky are ~£24 introductory rate rising to ~£34.
I'm out of contract with BT Infinity, but I signed up for the line rental saver without thinking in April, so there's a lot of time left on that deal. Can I leave without paying a termination fee for the line rental?
I did ring the customer options line, but the best they claimed they could do was £21 on the broadband as I've already paid for line rental, so the cost would be £37 to stay with BT.

If you are just comparing price then yes.0

Leave and you lose your advanced line rental payment remaining months no refund .
Do you actually need Infinity 2 ??.
I would be looking at downgrading to 1 and possibly just take out a 12 month BT contract for Infinity 1 .
If you take out a BT 12 month contract its should at least bring you to April then pay Line rental monthly until broadband contract finishes .0 -
That's all most people compare when buying internet connectivity. They think it's like changing electricity supplier, you get the same product with a different name on the bill. It gets worse when so-called knowledgeable people claim that all non-LLU ISPs are just BT resellers.Miserableadvisor wrote: »If you are just comparing price then yes.
Hence 90%+ of topics about internet connectivity on forums. I've been saying "you only get what you pay for" for over a decade but everyone wants a "deal" and no one cares about quality.

I do need option 2 - I go well over the bandwidth limits of limited offerings.
and yes, I've been very happy with the BT service, but equally I am paying almost £500 a year for it!0 -
BT will most likely increase their prices by a stupid amount this year, provided this is above the RPI, you can exit with no penalty and get your LRS refunded.
That's what I did anyway.0 -
Surely you can keep the "cheap" prepaid line rental (although I would never consider paying more than £10 a month for line rental) and just change your FTTC package to a new supplier?0

Are there still providers out there that are only £10 for line rental?
Anyway, Plusnet and Sky charge a monthly 'penalty' if you take their broadband but not their line rental. Zen do also.0 -

I would be very suspicious of any isp that imposed a penalty for not using them for line rental and would avoid them on principle. I have only ever paid £10 per month for line rental - my isp is aaisp but I really don't think they could care who i use for line rental as they are an isp NOT a phone line company.0 -

Ah yes, but they market it as a "copper pair" and don't allow incoming/outgoing calls. It's intended to only be used for putting broadband on top.0 -

I can't see any reason for landline calls in this day and age - a voip local landline number only costs me £1 per month in line rental so much better value and more versatile than a traditional landline phone as I can use it even when I'm out and about.0
