How did you manage to get credit in the first place (for the car) at an address you say you have never lived at?No free lunch, and no free laptop

Might this be a 'wind up' perhaps? Australian partner; never lived together; same surnames............This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

No it's not. She wasn't Australian. She applied for permanent residency while I was waiting for a court hearing (6months), she knew she didn't have a leg to stand on.....the lengths some people go to just so they don't have to pay someone back!
Lets just say my surname is up there with "Smith"0 -
If you genuinely want to see off this claim then, imho, you need proper legal advice - not the advice of well-intentioned contributors to this forum. This link is worth a read:

Maybe - However I've seen off a parking ticket in court and won a my own small claim with the advice on here :-) it does serve a useful purpose!
It's not so much legal advice or understanding the Civil procedure rules courts use, it's more the "procedures" debt recovery companies use to get what they need.
The credit reference agencies have nothing to suggest I lived at this other place and my score is maximum.0 -
Those procedures include threatening any and every body who they can link with either the debtor or the address. The energy company will have issued final reminders before handing over the debt to a debt collector. If your name does not appear on the final reminders, then you are in the clear.it's more the "procedures" debt recovery companies use to get what they needmad mocs - the pavement worrier0 -

Which is why I am querying how you managed to get car finance (presumably a few thousand quid) at an address at which you had no recorded links to.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Can't comment. As stated above so far only my name appeared on the letter from the debt recovery company. I've asked them why they think it's me. Prior to this letter I had no knowledge of anything going on.0 -

Honestly don't know! Like I said. Maybe that's the problem with some finance is too easy to obtain. We are talking only 2-3k anyway maybe it's not high risk for them?
It was settled when I sold the car and the money I lost I got back in court anyway from the ex.0
