Had a ford estate where the engine blew up, cheap car got for £700 ten years old, had for 5 years about. Now I have a ford focus 15 years old, bought for 1 grand 5 years old on almost 115 000 miles. Still running well and over taking the new cars on the road and quiet running shell v-power through a 1.8 zetec.
Looked at the Skoda new car deal, but I may keep it till it passes away. When you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you. Nietzsche
Please note that at no point during this work was the kettle ever put out of commission and no chavs were harmed during the making of this post.0 -
I usually invest a fair bit of ££ in my cars in a combination of mods, enhancements and restoration / repairs.
I'd lose too much if i was to sell them on so i just keep them as well maintained as i can and i'm normally the last owner. All your base are belong to us.0 -

You're wasting your money running V-Power on an engine like that0 -
Pretty much every car i buy i say "right, this is a keeper" then down the line circumstances change and / or i get bored looking at it.
Of the two we have at the moment we'll probably keep the 370z for 3 years and although technically the Jag (2005 x type 2.2D sport estate) could last for years as a workhorse it'll probably get moved on in a year or two.0 -
My Mondeo (54 reg, 1 previous owner) now has 250,000 miles on the clock, and saunters through it's MOT with either no advisories or minor ones that I usually sort.
Bits and pieces need doing here and there as you would expect from any car, but I'd probably only consider whether I should be scrapping when a repair job is going to cost >£500.
The car is only worth scrap value really, but it's looked after me, so I'm happy to keep looking after it until it dies on me or more likely the repair costs get too excessive bearing in mind the age of the car. I'll probably buy another cheap one when it finally kicks the bucket!0 -
Nearly all my cars I've bought for peanuts and run into the ground. I reckon it's the cheapest way to motor.
Paid £700 for my current car (26 years old) and 3 years on it's still passing it's MOT test. I have it serviced once a year
I had an identical model before this one and it gave me 8 years of virtually trouble free motoring before dying of rust at 22 years old.
I could have paid a few thousand pounds for a 6 year old Ford and then had loads of trouble and expense. I can run one of these german old 'uns for years on that kind of money.Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.0 -
It would be useful if people would state what make and model their amazing, everlasting cars are.0
