Ever kept a car until its 'died'?

Thanks everyone - interesting. So the car in question is an Astra. I like the size of it, the reliability and as I say its pretty economical.
I don't care about status ( or I probably wouldn't have an Astra!) so for me its perfect.
My brother bought a newish car and has nothing but issues. Expensive issues, as every fault has to be looked at by some computer device and then parts ordered etc. That's why I think its more sensible to stick with what I have.
I could always use my husbands car if this one packed up. He doesn't use it during the week.0 -
My parents bought a Ford Fiesta new in 2000, and kept it until it died in 2012 when it had to be sold for scrap. Had a major engine problem, and needed a lot of welding at the end.0

I had a Rover 800 diesel with over 200,000 miles on the clock when i bought it, i had it a few years and the next owner had it for at least 5 more.
My previous petrol Mondeo had 150,000 miles in 2009 and its still taxed and MOT'd. My last Mondeo a diesel one had over 170,000 miles and the new owner is putting approx 2000 miles a month onto it. They informed me that it passed the MOT with no advisories.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

I buy cars that are new, rag them to death for 3 years and then sell them on tarted up when I know they're about to throw up eye watering bills. New owner thinks I'm a mug for buying new, i play along "Yeah I'll never buy new again mate, you're getting a bargain!", when I know full well the bills it will throw up in the next few years would have meant it was cheaper if he bought brand new in the first place.0

My Mondeo Mk3 TDCI minicab had 278,000 on the clock when I retired it. Engine was still ok but most of everything else was a bit worn out.0

I have a 22 year old Previa that's nowhere near expiry yet. Only 90,000 odd on the clock and always starts at the first turn of the key.0

I thought mine was dead, but it seems to have come back to life after trading it in.
I bought a Fiesta new in 1998 and kept it until 2011, when I traded it in for a new one after repeated increasingly expensive MOT failures. I thought the dealer would have scrapped it, but according to AskMID it is still on the road today.0 -

What cars are these? If they're not sub £10k cars, I don't believe you.0
