Do you know which router you have, is it the SuperHub 1 or 2?
the first one has terrible wi-fi on.
the second has better, but still not great.
alot of people tend to put the superhub into modem only mode and use their own wifi router0 -

Superhub 2, this is the 2nd one.
I guess I shall just have to resign to having poor WiFi.
Just scanned to see what my neighbours use, but seems there is only one other connection close by, Sky and it is on channel 5. I am surprised it only found one considering there are 12 flats in close proximity to me.
I was thinking back to when I was with Sky and BT (not fibre) in this property and my WiFi was way better and steady, it never dropped out.0 -

A lot can change in the RF spectrum in a short time, and your neighbours could have got any number of bits of kit that could be affecting your wifi signal.... it could even be a power supply going dodgy and generating electrical noise at just the wrong frequency (none of which you'll pick up on a wifi scanner unfortunately)..I had to ditch Mini-Gun#2's tv because of the psu..........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
I have VM 100MB Broadband and the superhub2. I get anything between 85MB and 105Mb wireless speed on 5Ghz and around 75MB on 2.4Ghz.
You could try putting the Hub into Modem mode and using another WiFi router. Borrow, beg, or steal one to test before buying.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Sadly I do not have or know anyone I could borrow one from!
If I was to buy another router (cable one) would that perhaps improve speeds. And would it just plug in where the other router goes.
Not so technically minded!0 -
If its a Wifi problem, then it might improve the speed, but it really depends on the problem. And a new router could have similar problems.
first thing to do would be to try and run via a cable for awhile and see how it is.
If the cable continues to be stable and give you proper speeds, then it would defiantly be a wi-fi problem.
as for installing a new one, you cant just replace the superhub, as it also has a modem. Instead you have to run them both, the superhub as the modem, with the new router plugged into it.
it isn't too difficult to setup, you just go into the config page of the superhub, set the option for modem mode, and plug the cable from the router into the correct slot0 -

Thanks for the advice. I will run via TP-Link Powerline for now, and see how it goes.
I appreciate everyone's help.0 -
Are you sure the laptop has a N WiFi adapter? The older G adapters are also called 54Mbs but won't actually work much past 24Mbps even under ideal conditions. If it is G only that would probably explain why you only see one other AP. Do as was suggested a few posts back and try a scanner on you phone to see if that shows more.
Moving the Superhub just involves running an extension coax, You can buy suitable cables on eBay or from Amazon. If you are running a cable though it may just as well be ethernet.0 -

Laptop has: (It's 9 months old)
Broadcom BCM43142 802.11bgn WiFi Adapter
The drivers are also up to date.
I did the scanner on my phone, that also only shows the same Sky box, and my own TV when the VM Tivo is switched on.
EDIT: The drivers are up to date with what I get through the control panel. It's possible there is another update online I have missed. I purchased the laptop in November 2014.
Current driver is 6.223.215.14 from 31/07/20140 -
If there's not many other APs around and the connection is poor on 2.4GHz with both the phone and laptop even in the same room it sounds like there must be some other source of interference.
As Gunjack mentioned it could even be a duff PSU either of yours or a neighbours although for it to effect 2.4GHz I'd expect it to have to be very close or at least on the same phase of the mains and neighbouring properties, at least with houses in streets, are normally on different phases. Obviously you can't unplug the superhub power but you could try a test with the phone, TV box, and any other PSUs unplugged. I don't really expect that to be any difference though tbh.
If you have no problems with 5GHz a cheapish option might be to just buy a 5GHz dongle and use that instead of the built in WiFi.

I'm assuming that the Superhub is definitely set to one of the N options and not B/G0
