Could be because you already have an account with Santander, or your credit files look really bad. Have you recently checked what they say?

If you have bad credit records, you could always try a Basic Bank account. See the article at the top of the page

Not too sure about my credit record if i am honest but i will try a basic account... thank you

It's not necessarily true, a sortcode check will establish what types of transaction are allowed. It's quite possible that the account owner may be able to pay into it from another account at the same bank, but other people may not be able to.
    .

I will try the sortcode checker today

some savings account dont accept external payments or BACS credits so need to check if your E saver is one of those, also if it does accept credits need to check that you can set up payments to the other debit account, as again some savings accounts dont let you set up DD or standing orders...

thats why there are bank accounts for this type of thing, so maybe worth opening a basic account to keep money separate, many people have a bills account and a current account so they can keep some money separate....

If you manage your account properly, you might be allowed to upgrade to a better (interest paying) account in a while.

If you've never checked your credit files, you can do so for £6 (£2 to each of 3 Credit Reference Agencies). You will then be able to see, and correct any incorrect information.

    Good luck with your savings:)
