Yes I am sure there are plenty of cheaters, they will continue to cheat the system and maximise income, they have previous.
Plenty of genuine vulnerable people who don’t know how to cheat the system (they have never done it), they will be worse off.
I see this word vulnerable a lot and never sure what is meant. Can you define your version of vulnerable?Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0 -
Im not a dictionary, look it up.0

In this context a vulnerable person is somebody in receipt of housing benefit, on a low income with little or no savings to protect themselves against the sort of unforeseen financial issues that other non-vulnerable people who may have savings, access to cheap credit, equitable assets and/or a good cash flow are protected against.
The use of the word is spot on.
Benefit dependency? Almost by definition somebody in receipt of benefits would be dependent on them, most people are dependent on their income.0 -
The first google hit for vulnerable brings up the following:
vulnerable
ˈvʌln(ə)rəb(ə)l
adjective
exposed to the possibility of being attacked or harmed, either physically or emotionally.
(of a person) in need of special care, support, or protection because of age, disability, or risk of abuse or neglect.
Doesn't encompass those who don't see why they should work for a living even though they are perfectly capable of doing so.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

As per my previous post the use of the word vulnerable in this context is absolutely spot on. To be dependent on means tested housing benefits (benefit dependent if you like) you would have a low income, no savings, no assets and no access to cheap credit.. vulnerable.
How said individual got in the situation and how hard said person tries to change the position it is irrelevant to the use of the word vulnerable.
Yours and bluelagoon's point I think is that you object to the use of a word that doesn’t adequately portray housing benefit recipients as scrounging doleys.0 -
I also note the topic of the thread.
It is hard, impossible, or illegal, for most children to move out and get a job - nomatter the parents.
Added to the awkward fact that someone in low-paid work most of the year is just as likely to fall into the benefits cap for that part of the year they are not employed, and lose their home.0 -
I think this definition of vulnerable is accurate...
“who is or may be in need of community care services by reason of mental or other disability, age or illness; and who is or may be unable to take care of him or herself, or unable to protect him or herself against significant harm or exploitation”.
To use the word to describe someone in receipt of HB with little or no savings and unable to access cheap credit diminishes it's true definition.0 -

You can think it diminishes whatever you like but its still accurate!0
