I once went for a meet up with a bunch of people who had been banned from HPC and started a splinter movement. Can't remember what it was called but it was a similar name.
Nice bunch actually. Sir Humphrey who used to post here was there and we chatted for quite a while until his missus got a little abusive (I think she lived in a Guardianista bubble and wasn't used to investment bankers with a rather different take on things. She liked wine in 250ml glasses a lot which I suspect didn't help as the afternoon turned to night).
Betty Page used to post here too and was there. She was very nice, one of those people that really occupy a room. She dressed a bit like a member of the Communards.
The bloke that set up the splinter group was there but I'm not sure if I remember his real name or his username. He was lovely and obviously bright, as was Sir H actually.
Good grief.
Any sign of Bruno?0 -

Yes, that was it. I think it was 2004, maybe Spring.ruggedtoast wrote: »Good grief.

Sadly not. I've always wanted to meet Bruno. Ever since the umbrella thing. I like people that are passionate about their causes.0 -

Lot of water under the bridge since then. There were some okay people on HPC before the mentals all took over. They banned me for not being bearish enough.
It's weird it still exists, it just seems to have turned into a wacky outpost for people who find zero hedge too cerebral.0 -
Just about any forum that utilises very often googled search terms do well. It will grow and grow.
An example of clever URL squatting.
The site prays for a house price crash because advertising revenue jumps up when more people Google the term and land on their page.
If you set up a forum called ' itchy red rash' or 'iPhone not working', it would do just as well.Proudly voted remain. A global union of countries is the only way to commit global capital to the rule of law.0 -

Keep an eye on the bigger picture. Don't get bogged in sentiment and ones own personal micro world.0 -

It depends where you live I guess. It certainly didn't happen in Clerkenwell where we had the meet up!0 -
I must be the only one here who isn't a misfit!0

But for many of them, it probably would have been better to buy prior to the 2007/8 correction, depends how long they waited, strange that they got it, but they still didn't buy.
Just like you didn`t see your tax bill rising Chucker you won`t see the next big housing crash coming, you have been brainwashed I`m afraid. This little hold out of a dozen or so HPI "believers" is about as weird as it gets IMO0 -

I don't need to believe in HPI Crashy, I have already had it, and I don't need to see the next correction coming, because I am very near to selling up, I might even start doing so as early as next year. I want to ensure that I don't lose the current private letting relief concessions that exists for capital gains tax. There hasn't been any mention of this, but I see it as possible 'fair game' in future budgets.
As for my tax bill rising, no I didn't see it coming, but it isn't that significant, I am not highly geared, and what mortgages I do have, only have an average rate of about 1%. I will have enjoyed the benefit of the wear and tear allowance and deducting full mortgage interest for 25 years, and I will be at least partially (if not wholly) selling up in the next few years. So I got the benefits when I needed/wanted them. My attitude isn't negative, I am reflecting over 25 years of excellent capital growth and rental profits.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0
