Bad surprise - untaxed vehicle

John Bravo, you say you have owned the car for seven years... once a year or twice a year at EXACTLY the same month, you will have paid your vehicle excise duty. I make that seven times or perhaps fourteen times if you only renew for six months. Can't you remember doing that ?
I have owned my car for eight years and, yes, blimey, I can remember when its MOT test is due and when its VED is due. The clue is on the number plate.0 -

Well we haven't got anything else to do while we sit here in Swansea, as we cant be ar5se'd sending out VED reminders!DVLA employees have over-representation on this board!
Plus the electronic link for the PPC's makes our life very cushy!
Now if we could just stop people asking for driving licences and changing cars, we would have it made!

I'm with the OP on this. If you look at their post 30, 50 million reminders are sent, by the time we get to post 35, it's down to 20-40 million. Best case is 10 million have already gone missing, worst case could be 30 million !0

You say "their post 30". and said as if the DVLA themselves posted the comment.
Look again at who did post it. Same fella who seems to need his hand holding to get through life's daily trauma's.
I wonder if his mum still has to call him to remind him it's time to come in for his tea.0 -

run and hit the wall with your smart head
because you work for DVLA you still don't get it that these reminders should be abandoned, flawed service that just creates disinformation regardless of my situation.
This should also bring the price of this tax down.0 -
I am certainly NOT in favour of the abandonment of the Tax Disc. It did act as a reminder but more importantly it enabled the general public to see if a car was untaxed, particularly if abandoned in your street.
On the MOT front, I am not sympathetic to OP at all. Linking MOT to just after tax date is a choice he made - and, of course, if it did fail the MOT, well he still had 12 months' tax on the screen.
Whilst I am very sympathetic about the catch 22 predicament OP found himself in as expressed in post#1, the conspiracy theory than grew more extraordinary as he developed the thread is frankly ludicrous.
Oh - I live nowhere near Swansea.0 -

The new vehicle tax system is designed to cut down on administration and raise a bit of extra money with both people paying the overlap month. Any issues are due to people coming to terms with the system, rather than any deliberate attempt to upset you.
If you can't find letters and old bills etc then this is a useful tool to check dates. Both MOT and VED dates very readily available for all cars.0 -
            Hi there,
I wonder if someone could help. I found my car clamped today by DVLA, to cut a long story short I paid the release charge and surity once I walked home.
The DVLA are now closed. Does anyone know how long it will take for them to send someone to unclamp my car?
Also, you can get the purity back in you tax within 14 days, fortunately my pay day is within that time. Does anyone know how long it takes to get the purity refund?
Thank you very much.0
