Bad surprise - untaxed vehicle

Options
I do not know what is going on, but evil powers are watching me.
This is one of these Mondays I am returning home happy because I have finished my work on time and etc.
I am approaching my house and see a ticket on the windscreen of my car. I look around I see that it is clamped.
First I though that this is about some parking restriction (I moved to this address 3 days ago), but I looked into the leaflet and it looks like the car is untaxed.
I got to the house quickly to check online.
It is 6:15pm DVLa is closed already and the clamping company is closed 5pm.
So I looked up online and checked the status of my tax - they have this BETA online check now.
My road tax expired more than 2 months ago!
Moreover there is no MOT on it either! Which expired 9 days after the road tax.

I have totally missed that and I haven't received anything from DVLa before May that the car has to be taxes as it was always the case + because my MOT expires later I was doing both in the same time.
What a ridiculous situation.
Apparently they are taking my car to the car pound after 24h so tomorrow.
I cannot tax it because I have no MOT, I cannot release it because I have no Tax.
This is in North London and the car pound is in far East London.

I know that they have scrapped tax disks. Does this mean DVLA is no longer sending any reminders to the current address?
Please advise.

I got a reminder a couple of months ago.
Has it gone to an old address? It would have gone to the address on V5

I have moved to a new address 3 days ago, but was picking up all mail on regular basis at the old address and picked up a reminder in 2014 with no problems and this is of course the address on V5.
Besides this is a house, so there is no option that the reminder was lost somewhere in the corridor or someone put it in the wrong hole.

I am going to change it now.

You are lucky you did not have an accident while uninsured, you really would have been for the high jump.

I only found it this week that if you forget to tax your car under this new no tax disk regime, they do indeed send a reminder. My Mum received a letter this week reminding her that the tax expired end of last month.

The OP says he has no tax and no MOT.

Luckily he missed out on the full house you mention!

moot point i'd say. But that is different to not having it insured.

It's pot luck with regard to reminders. It's up to the registered keeper to ensure vehicles are roadworthy, insured, SORNed or have tax and an MoT (except in certain circumstances.) If you get a reminder, consider it a bonus. If you don't, well you have just found out unfortunately what happens.

I'm not sure what the answer is but you might be able to book an MoT then (with proof of booking) get the car released and take it to the MoT station, then tax it if it passes. Tax not needed as long as it is SORNed going to or from an MoT pre-booked test, but this is not the case here.
