  • Maryjune,

Feel very bad for you as I am going through same struggles right now.

You have several options, but right now I am thinking how can I influence the decision makers to get things put right? Sooo, that led me to contact my MSP and I started a petition on well known site. Google that or PM me if it helps. When you exhausted all other avenues, what other option do you have but to name and shame?

Google: 'daily mail Fran Ikin banner': helps you spread word around locally.

It not funny really, but if you don't try and laugh about it, you will only cry into your pillow!
  • Shame on you martinsurrey -you know what she means and checking spelling is probably furthest from her mind right now! Hope you never find yourself in same situation. I do say you have to laugh or you will only cry, but at same time, please think about what this woman going though right now?

Just send round "Ron & Ron Debt Collecting Agency" (very reasonable rates) and they will guarantee getting the OP's money back......:D

Will they work for the contractor as well. When the client changes the spec with no intention what so ever to pay the extra
  • Okay, so I quote ceridigion: ''When the client changes the spec with no intention what so ever to pay the extra''.

How about when the building contractor says the price of job will be 1500% higher than original quote?!! I kid you not!

Yes, the rogue rouge builders have struck again - I did wonder why they removed their red advertising from scaffolding few months ago!:rotfl:

Rogue builders exist but so do rogue double glazing companies, rogue take aways, rogue garages, rogue corner shops ... the list goes on. People do not seem to get wound up about all these - it just seems that builders are in the line of fire.

The solution to rogue builders does not exist, but a vast number of situations occur because of rogue clients. The client is the area that needs to be addressed, and to an extent can be addressed. Unfortunately the vast majority of clients have no interest in adopting a competent approach to such matters. Yet they complain when they are caught out.

He is on the run now, running from property to property never stays more than a month. Proper criminal. Judgement is against his company so his credit rating is fine. So much injustice in the legal system.

My thoughts for what they are worth are:

Have you spoken with / tried to get trading standards involved?

Have you considered contacting your local paper, who may run an article on this.

Finally, if as you say a number of debt collector companies are involved, surely they could track this untrustworthy builder down.

I hope that you get this sorted and can understand the frustrations involved.
