Awful BBC coverage of the British Open golf today.

Thank goodness Sky are getting the British Open golf soon.

BBC in their wisdom are showing it from 1345hrs this afternoon. Nothing prior to that on BBC Iplayer, interactive services, etc. I will be complaining to BBC via email.

Just awful and you can see why they are losing so much sport.

Golf is a good walk ruined, so I won't be worried that it will only be on sky next year.

In fairness it's an unexpected fifth day of TV courage which would never have been scheduled in. The TV schedule for Monday would have been set weeks ago and yet they are still showing over four hours of the open.

The four previous days of coverage has been excellent.

Sky have more money and six TV channels dedicated to sport. The BBC doesn't have this option.

So instead of showing the golf, they are doing repeats of rubbish like homes under the hammer, bargain hunt, etc.

Summed up nicely on Daily T/graph website at http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/golf/theopen/11750686/Why-isnt-the-Open-on-TV-Golf-fans-outraged-as-final-round-is-not-televised-by-BBC.html.

The article does say that the BBC production team is down by a third because the staff have other commitments. It is a lot easier to show a prerecord TV program than it is to broadcast live courage.

I would suspect that the winner of the open will be one of the players who the BBC have followed from the tee off. The first few hours of watching the guys with no chance of winning is a bit tedious....

Maybe Monday has given them a problem and maybe it is the case that Sky have more channel space but on Sunday, for example, there was golf from early on but when BBC2 came on the air it favoured chats with tedious talking heads not the golf. Even the red button was not working at that stage. The cameramen seemed incapable of following the ball. I thought Peter Allis sounded embarrassed by the poor quality of the pictures. For keen golf fans watching major players in the final round even if they are not that likely to win is a pleasure and happens but once a year.
The BBC have shown themselves not to be worthy of having any major sporting events. They butchered the cricket over the years. Their coverage of the snooker world championship is erratic. The highlights of Wimbledon were atrocious. You may have to pay to see it on Sky and you have too many adverts but even so it is a better bet and personally I'd rather pay or go to the pub. I accept that is not everyone's choice.

Sky's let me down on their coverage today of the fifth day of the Ashes....

Although that is probably the England's team fault.....
