Hi all,
Does anyone know what to do to fix a broken window handle in a double glazed window like this example?

Is it easy to replace a handle or is it better to call a handyman/double glazing company? I have not replaced a handle before.
Thanks

Looks easy enough. Undo the screw to the right, remove the white plug to the left & undo the screw under it & the handle will come off.
All you have to do now is find a replacement! Do you know who supplied the windows? If so pop round & ask for a new handle. Is there a maker's name? Google double glazing handles & find one that looks like that.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -
Ooh how did you manage that? I would agree go find the DG company who fitted it or a nearby one and see if they sell spares.0

Unscrew it all and take it to Screwfix where you'll easily find a replacement. That's what we did.
BTW it's very easy to do, the length of the metal bar/spindle that goes into the window is the most important thing. Get the length of that right and it's easy peasy.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
Hi guys,
The handle broke while the window is still locked. Will this cause a problem?0 -
You should be able to get it off OK by the looks of it. Might actually make it easier as it doesn't swing away from you.0

When you get the plastic off you'll see the spindle better and you can just use pliers to open the window. The lock just stops you from pressing the button down to turn the handle. They are extremely easy to break open. Just one big push and anyone can open it even if locked.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

This one seems the bes as it comes with a range of spindle lengths and it matches the colour of yours too0 -
Another place to try for replacement window handles is Handlestore http://www.handlestore.com/ I have used them in the past to get handles for my old windows. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

I have bought these from a local window company, it would have been a £70 call-out charge, or DIY they cost me £4 each.0
