£480 for a 6 hour uk to uk flight delay would have been a right result!
Did you not confer with your fellow passenger - the one that DID get paid out - to see what they received, as opposed to what *you* received?
But anyway, I agree, the airline had no business paying out to you for your fellow passenger, without a clear written agreement to do so.
Therefore: Friend still has a claim against airline. Airline has a claim against you.
I wouldn't bother contacting the airline, wait for them to contact you.
Friend needs to write to the airline and ask to see the written authority that the airline has to pay out you and not them directly, and in the absence of such written authority, to pay out forthwith, otherwise 14 days and it'll go to court etc etc0
