I installed an SSD 500gb £133 from amazon into my five year old computer a few weeks ago. The start up time has been been greatly reduced and apps load quicker. Worth it in my opinion.

the motherboard only supports sata 11 , and in this situation I don,t think the OP will see the real advantage of a SSD drive

Want a bet on that ? I've a sata II lappy hanging around that has an SSD in it an I'd be more than happy to slap some spinning rust in it and post the benchmarks between the two.
Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.

No worries, we live in times of austerity :D

funny that , because I plugged my ssd drive into one of my sata 2 ports the other day , whilst altering things , and YES it was considerably slower

OP , are you wanting to completely remove vista and do a clean install of win 7 onto a drive with a single partition , or do you want to keep the drive split up?

It's hasn't got a name but here are the motherboard details-
    Foxconn G31MX Series.
    Chipset -Intel P35/G33/G31 , rev 10 .
    South bridge - Intel 82801GB (ICH7/R) rev A1.
    LPCIO - ITE IT8718

    BIOS
    Phoenix Technology LTD
    6.00 PG
    05/05/2009

    Thank you

    There are three options:
    G31MX
    G31MX-K
    G31MX-K 2.0

Probably best to actually look at the markings on the board if you haven't already done so.
We don't want to make an unnecessary mistake.
Haven't we looked at this machine before?
