I need some help with a fresh windows 7 install

Options
I have a PC with running vista with a 750GB hard drive partitioned into 4 drives. I backed up all my data on a portable hard drive and now I want to load windows 7 premium onto the 750GB drive and change the size of the 4 partitions. Any help doing this would be good, also I was hoping to save my window explorer favourites and if possible some emails from Microsoft outlook.

Save the favourites and emails separately. Windows Easy Transfer might do it for you, though cleaner to do it manually.
Brand name and model number of machine?

If money permits, have you considered buying an SSD drive and clean installing W7 on to that while keeping the HDD info intact for now ? I'm assuming that it's a desktop.

to add to niftydigets , I keep a directory with my favorates on my nas drive , so that I can quickly restore them on a new computer

in file explorer /users/your name/ is a directory with a star icon , copy that to a pendrive etc

when you reload windows , open the folder on the pendrive , highlight one , then press ctrl and a , right click/copy , go to your new win 7 open up users/your name/favorites and paste them in

    Thanks for reply
Yes its a desktop running Vista home basic
    Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5400 @ 2.700GHz
    RAM 4.00 GB
    32 bit

Sorry for being a noob but why use a SSD and not a HDD?

    Much greater performance and reliability.

A good set of reasons listed in much better detail here:

They do cost more than a HDD for the same storage capacity but that margin is literally closing by the day.

A 250gb SSD can now be had for around the £60 mark, for expample:

If you don't answer Nifty he won't be able to help you. Ignore the SSD shenanigans unless you'd rather keep your existing drive as a archive (you can always put in a SSD after you have installed Windows 7).
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

Why double the work ? Kill two birds with one stone. Besides if that's the original HDD it's a very old HDD.

Does the PC have a brand name and model number?

If not, furnish the exact Motherboard details. That way we can see the options more clearly.

You'll likely upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit.

Going to a festival. back in a few hours.

If the full details are here when I get back, I'll put an upgrade package together for you.
