Problems with Talktalk Broadband and landline

Aaaarrgghh!!

It all started about 10 days ago when my landline rang and I didn't get to it in time. I picked up the phone to do 1471 but the line was dead. The dialtone came back after 30 mins or so but the line was no crackly. That night when I connected to broadband, I noticed my speed had dropped from 8.1 to6.7 Mphps, still fast but not as fast as the constant 8.1 I'd been getting since the upgraded exchange 6 months ago. Then the phone rang again and BB disconnected and wouldn't connect (kept saying No dial tone) until I pushed all the wires back in hard.

I rang Talktalk and they said it must be the microfilter, I had a new one so I changed that but it made no difference. Then they said it must be a landline problem and an engineer would look at it. I've had a message left saying teh fault has been fixed. Except it's just the same as before, crackly line BB disconnecting when we use the phone and general problems at times where the pc seems to lock up.

Any ideas before I go back to Talktalk to moan?

Thanks

I have noticed the line going dead issue a couple of times but it's always re-synced itself really quickly.

Are you using the master socket for your broadband/telephone? This will be the first thing they ask when they try to do diagnostics.

As for your computer locking up, have you access to another computer/laptop you can try to rule out problems with the computer rather than TalkTalk causing the issues with the computer?

Yes using the master socket with a microfilter. Have had teh front of the socket off and there's a tiny brown wire loose. When I work out where it's got to go will see if that helps!

No I haven't, but it's not a pc problem I'm pretty sure of it.
  • I think you may have identified the issue yourself here. If you have loose wires and are only able to connect to your broadband when you push the connections together hard..... it does appear to be a loose connection within the telepone socket you are using. Try tightening this up or checking if you can see where it goes too.
