How to clean a washing machine door seal?

The seal on my washing machine has become a bit grubby with bits of stuck on fluff etc but I realise that as it's made of rubber I may damage it with certain products.
It's rented accomodation so definitely dont want to ruin it by making a hash of it, any tips?
