Flight diverted

My daughter and 2 friends were on a flight from heathrow to larnaca yesterday. The flight took off over an hour late, not sure of the reason why, and was then diverted to paphos due to fog at larnaca meaning there was zero visibility to land. They booked on line through travel republic but their transfer was booked to pick them up from larnaca. To cut a long story short, she, her friends and 2 other passengers decided to get a taxi, which cost them 30 euros each, due to there being only 1 coach laid on at paphos, with an unknown wait time for another, we are talking around 4/5am in the morning. Is there anything they can do to reclaim this money and if so, from who? They do have travel insurance but I would guess that the excess would not make it worth claiming. 30 euro is a chunk of their limited budget for the holiday which they have saved all year for and they had paid for the transfer which they couldn't use. Thanks for any advice.

I suspect because they "chose" and did not wait for the bus, they will have no options.
Await other replies though.0 -
travel insurance?...although probably not worth claim if there is an excess0

Fog is outside everyone's control so there is no claim against the airline. If they had bought a package holiday the tour operator would have arranged the transfer from the other airport but if you buy flights and accommodation separately from companies like Travel Republic, you may save money but as you can see, you can lose it all again when things go wrong.0
