Six weeks ago I returned an Interrent hire car to Marseille airport with a puncture. The employee, without even opening the boot to look, reported that the car required a new tyre.
In consequence, I was charged £145.
Interrent is part of Europcar and despite phone calls and emails to both offices in UK and France, no reply has been forthcoming.
Will I rent from Euopcar/Interrent again? Not under any circumstances.

Of course you bought the standalone car hire excess oft recommended, so you should have no issue. Get an invoice and make a claim.

Interrent (Europcar) are a scam outfit. Europcar has realised it can make decent revenues with these rip-offs, hence it's now bought the worst scammers in the market Goldcar in an effort to expand its reach in the lucrative rip off space.

Hoping someone can help me please.

I currently have a car on hire in the UK and have an annual excess cover with Questor. As it was dark when I collected the car, I took it to a well lit area near to my home, inspected it and took photos the same evening. The following morning, I did a full inspection, took more photos, and called customer services three times to report the damage I'd found that wasn't listed on the inspection sheet. Three times I was told that the location depot did not have a direct number and I must email customer services to report the damage.

As the email address I was given did not look right for a UK location, I had a further chat to an online agent so that they could write the address for me, which I cut and paste into the email to make sure it was correct.

The following day, having had no response from customer services, I called again query why. I was told, in no uncertain terms, that... "This is the problem with third party excess cover insurance. If you'd taken out our excess cover, we would just write it off for you." This agent then gave me a new number to contact, saying that it would put me through to the depot. It was the number for Europcar head office, who were shocked at what I'd been told by the agent, and advised that I return the car to the depot, which I did. He also gave me the correct UK customer services email address. I forwarded the original email to the new address, with over 10 photos of all the damage to the car and a cover letter to explain the story so far.

At the depot, I was kept waiting so long that it went dark, and the desk agent said the car could not be inspected, and there was nothing that could be done until the manager was in the office the following morning. This agent repeated the 'issue with third party excess cover' that had previously been given.

I've been back and spoken to the manager this morning, armed with prints of the emails and online conversations. The car was inspected and three 'new' items of damage noted on the description sheet.

The manager asked that I forward all my correspondance to her so that she could escalate the matter. The manager again said I should have taken their insurance so that damage could be written off, but now they would likely have to charge me and I'd have to claim from Questor. I was also told there was no replacement car that I could exchange this one for.

I'm at a loss what to do now. Should I inform my credit card supplier, or Questor, baring in mind that I still have the rental and need transport? Or should I just wait and see how it all pans out? I've already driven over 100 miles trying to resolve this issue, and I fail to see why I, or my insurer should be charged for existing damage to the car at the time of collection.

Blue264 If Europcar want to charge your card, they will.

If they do, contact your credit card company and describe their unreasonable charges and they'll probably sort it out.
