Overseas, maxed out card

I've been living in asia for a few years but finally maxed out my credit card I can no longer pay the direct debit to that bank every month
So I should call the bank to see what they say.
I need to cancel the direct debit before it is due again because my overdraft wont cover it

Is there some thing I should know before I call the bank?
What may they suggest?

Is there another card I can get from outside UK so I can cover monthly payments and a flight back?

Unless you have a UK address and friends in UK that can help you, getting a new card sent abroad is unrealistic.

The bank won't do anything until you miss payments and default - thus trashing your credit history. After this they may agree to freezing interest and some payment plan.

So you have got absolutely no savings or money reserves to use to pay for a flight back?

Do you think a second card will really help ? How long would it be before that would be at max ?

My suggestion is 1) YNAB and 2) SOA. Sit down and see what income you have, where the money is spent. You may have to put your lifestyle on hold for a while, live on what food you have in stock and save enough to meet this month's DD.

All probably easier said than done but you need to be in control.

    andyfm, what is YNAB, SOA?
I may be able to use my UK address and friend to send a card here.
I can probably sell everything to get a flight back( if I dont have to pay rent and overdraft and credit card this month), but a new card could allow me to do all that.
Then I can try to settle everything back in the UK.
But I am wondering if the bank will suggest/insist to a repayment agreement which will not be so good in the long term, and what those options may be..

Remember - do you have a job where you are ? If so you may be better staying there and sorting out your finances.

It is generally a condition that you are UK resident when applying for a UK CC. You might "get away" with using your previous UK address, but you should be aware that this is fraudulent.

What are your employment/income earning prospects in the UK?

Where in Asia are you? Why did you run out of cash - spending too much or earning not enough? Can you earn enough to support yourself there? If so, then I'd probably stay there. Tell the UK lenders where you are and set up a repayment plan to pay a little off each month. No doubt some posters suggest you just "run away" on the basis they probably won't bother chasing you. I used to live in Vietnam. Met a number of expats who did exactly that. In the end, most did have to return and rely on parents etc., to dig them out (including blokes in their 40s).
