How close can I build up to?

Obviously I'll speak to the neighbour to see what he says, but how much of a gap should I leave between his property and mine to not make us a terraced house? No where on the internet says anything, not even local council, and they want me to submit a planning application to answer the question, I am only wanting to know if there would be enough room down the side of the house for an extra bedroom.
Any Ideas anyone?

Dont forget planning and party wall are two different things
Have you spent some time on the planning portal website?Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
Yep, Can't see anywhere that states the minimum distance i need to leave, unless I'm being blind...What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..0

I dont think there is a minimum , you can build up to your boundary (this includes your guttering etc) but the party wall act will apply
There is some knowledgable people on here that will be along before long i`m sureNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
I've seen stories on newspapers where they're not happy as "my neighbour turned us into a semi and lost money on our house" so you can obviously build right up, but how do you keep water/damp hanging around and the brickwork in good condition if there's like a 200mm gap? What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..0

A house in our street has this kind of build , the householder installed long strips of treated wood in the gap both sidesNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0
