I bought a shielded wallet when the bank upgraded my card to one of these unwanted contactless cards.

So far so good as I have neither had an authorised nor unauthorised transaction via this contactless method.

if you produced that card where i worked, I'd ask for a different card. what you might portray as "safety" i might interpret as you've replaced the chip in the card.

that looks nothing worse than a dodgy card

To use that card fraudulently, they'd some how have to obtain the PIN
    Not for cardholder-not-present fraud.

Not only that the card pictured looks like it'd get jammed in a card reader (and possible bring up the message it's been tampered with, disabling the unit for security reasons.)

Contactless isn't for everyone; I prefer using it because it's convenient and any fraudulent transactions conducted on my account(s) would be refunded by my bank anyway.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

Look at the link I posted, they have a separate line item that covers remote purchase fraud (i.e. cardholder not present).

I think you need to join the tin foil hat brigade.

Such a helpful reply, why did you bother even making the effort. My opening post was to explain what I did in the hope that it may help others either now or in the future.

I totally understand that what I did is not for everyone. Some people actually have a greater value for contactless payment.

What I don't understand is why so many people feel the need to chime in just to have digs at someone providing helpful information to other people.

Your maximum exposure for contactless is £80 per day, not £20 for every person up to an unlimited amount. Plus after a number of contactless transactions, and less if they appear to be suspicious, your card will require a PIN to be used.

I have about 6 or 7 contactless cards in my purse, and have been using them at least once a day for the past 3 or 4 years. I've not seen any instances of fraud yet.

While I've heard of a number of people who have had their cards skimmed, copied, details stolen online, I'm yet to hear of one instance of contactless fraud.

If you are so worried about fraud, you shouldn't be using cards at all, as this appears to be a relatively low risk area that you are combatting.

Plus, when I worked in retail, I would not accept a card that looks like the HSBC one pictures, or that had otherwise been defaced. It increases the risk that the card has been tampered with (eg the chip replaced), so you might find yourself coming in to trouble.

    Anyway, contactless is really convenient...

A lot of time and effort to fix a problem that doesn't exist.
