Sixt rental issues

Dear forum users, I am hoping someone out there can give me some advice.
I recently returned from a holiday in France where a had hired a car from Sixt. The booking was ordered online and pre-paid through my mastercard. Pick up and drop off went fine (so it seemed at the time).
After returning from holiday I received an email from Sixt thanking me for my custom and attaching for my records my final invoice. This included two unexpected costs which I had not pre-paid for. After a bit of translation, these turned out to be:
1) tyre and glass protection; and
2) loss damage waiver insurance.
I did not order either of these items, either online or when collecting my vehicle. In relation to loss damage waiver insurance, my mastercard includes loss damage waiver insurance for car rentals - its terms state that "the mastercard carholder and those designated in the auto rental contract as authorised drivers are covered. The cardholder must rent the car in his or her name and decline the collision/loss damage waiver offered by the rental company".
For this reason I declined Sixt's loss damage waiver insurance when I booked online.
When I collected the car at the local Sixt branch I was not asked whether I wanted to take out any extra insurance or cover products. However, it transpires that both items were added to my order when I collected the car - without my knowledge.
I have subsequently raised the issue with Sixt. They have agreed to refund the tyre/glass protection as a "gesture of good will" (although as I did not order this product I do not view this refund as 'good will', simply common sense). However, in relation to the loss damage waiver insurance (a cost of 260 EUR) they are digging their heels in - they acknowledge that many credit card holders have loss damage waiver insurance provided, but are saying that I needed to provide a copy of my insurance policy to branch staff on collection, and presentation of the credit card alone was not sufficient.
I was not asked by branch staff to present a copy of my insurance policy on collection and have requested details from Sixt of where in their terms and conditions it states I must do this.
But long and short of it:
1) I ordered my car and pre-paid for everything I needed (I didn't need loss damage waiver as it was covered by the credit card I made the booking with);
2) When I collected the car I wasn't asked for details of my loss damage waiver insurance;
3) I wasn't asked whether I wanted to take out loss damage waiver insurance;
4) I wasn't asked whether I wanted to take out tyre/glass protection; but
5) I was still charged for both loss damage waiver insurance and tyre/glass protection.
So I was a bit surprised when I received my invoice!
Has anyone had any similar experiences with Sixt / any advice on where I stand with reclaiming the costs for the loss damage waiver insurance?

the first issue is to look at the contract you signed, and in particular where you were asked to sign on the document. When they try to sell something you didn't want, they usually get you to initial next to the agreement to buy. If you signed for it, it will be very difficult to argue the point.
If you see no sign of the insurance on the face of the contract, the easiest way of contesting the charge is to contact your credit card issuer and send them a copy of the rental agreement showing no agreement to buy LDW and ask for a chargeback for that amount.0 -
