O2 - Lowering airtime plan during contract

I recently contacted O2 as I'd like to reduce the number of airtime minutes and data on my pay monthly contract.
I barely use the phone and pay for unlimited minutes, texts and 2GB data. Has anyone had any experience in changing their airtime plan during a contract? O2 told me they don't have the option to do that...but I can't find anything in the terms and conditions which disallows it.
I originally asked for the cheapest airtime plan but it doesn't look like this happened - I know I should have been more observant.

Part of what you pay is for that nice flashy phone. O2 used to allow downgrading half-way through the minimum term - I don't think they do now. You decided on the package for a set term and agreed to it - so unless it IS in the t&C that you CAN downgrade or they are EXTREMELY generous - tough luck.

if you are on the o2 refresh style plan where your minutes and phone costs are seperated then yes I think you can.

Don't forget if you have a new highend phone, then that is likely £25 or so of the bill each month, with the remaining amount being for your call package.

    Thanks.

Yes I am on the new refresh plan where my contract is split into 2. Device plan / Airtime plan.

I'll go into a store to try to sort as I'm getting no where over the phone.

    separated

I am not sure that it's always the case, e.g. https://www.o2.co.uk/shop/phones/samsung/galaxy-s6-edge/#contractType=paymonthly

It says: "Includes 24 month Airtime Plan".

The T&C for Refresh do say that the airtime plan can be changed "at any time before the end of the 24 month term", but for this you have to pay the Phone Plan off first.

I had no luck with this so I ended up paying over £200 to settle my device plan. I left o2 as the signal is terrible at my home address anyway.
There was no attempt to keep my business.
    Thanks all for the info.
