Frankly I am terrified that you even think of putting the poor old cat to sleep - driving to Spain in much smaller inconvenience for you than for the cat to be PTS .. poor old boy.
I already have 6 in a small 2 bed place but I am sure there is someone somewhere for this poor boy...0 -
You can use nice euphemisms like 'euthanise' or 'put to sleep' all you want, but what you're talking about is killing your cat because it doesn't fit in with your plans. Which is, of course, a completely and utterly appalling thing to even consider.
One of you can drive down with the cat and come up with some solutions to help it settle into the new home, or you can pay the £850 for somebody to take over responsibility for the cat you made a commitment to, a bargain really.0 -
I can't believe you would consider having this poor old lad put to sleep as you want to fly to Spain.
I did your trip in reverse when we moved from Spain and my main thought was how to make the trip as stress free as possible for my two girls (dog and cat).
We drove and came through the tunnel so they could be with us every moment. No way would we have flown them back as they couldn't have stayed with us and that would have been so stressful for them.
I don't know where you're moving from and going to but we drove from Southern Spain to Scotland and only needed two overnight hotel stops.
If you re-consider which I sincerely hope you do, let me know if there's any practical advice I can help you with.0 -
I am surprised too that someone is choosing to fly. So you are not taking clothes, books, cd's or other person items?
So easy to drive using Eurotunnel and the cat can be with you the whole time.
As I said, me and OH went to France with 5 cats and a number of years later came back with 2 cats and a dogThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
My husband works in the airline industry
may be why they are planning to fly.0 -
I too think it's awful that you would even consider having him put to sleep!
He's lived for 20+ years, the least you can do is let him live the rest of his life instead of wanting to kill him because he can't fit in with your plans.
Where do you live? if it's anywhere near Nottingham I'll take him.0 -

That's so lovely of you. :A
What happens to this poor cat has been really bothering me.
Let's hope she'll bring him to you anyway whether she lives close by or not0 -

Try The Cinnamon Trust, or local charities.
I can't think of anything polite to write about the concept of killing a sentient being without major health concerns because their presence is inconvenient.
How do your parents feel about your plans for their former pet?
And I don't even particularly like cats.0
