....Was a mistake on my part not mentioning the accident but I thought because no claim was made I didn't have to and was told it wouldn't affect my insurance and it was an honest mistake. Hopefully they understand this when I ring them tomorrow as it's really stressing me out
Try and speak to someone senior as you really need to try and get them to accept your story AND rescind their cancellation of your policy. Though expect a steep increase in premium (the claim and the loss of NCD will make a significant difference)

(But if they would never have accepted you had they known the truth then you are stuck with this cancellation on your record)

According to the OP incorrect NCD declared. non disclosure of an incident and non disclosure of a fault claim.

I had no idea of the claim, otherwise I would of mentioned it on my new policy. There was no letters or anything I was totally confused when they told me I had a claim from 2014 and had to ring up my old insurance company who didn't know the details either who then passed me on to the underwriter who had to explain the situation to me. I hope the insurance company realize this was an honest mistake. I'm happy to pay a higher premium and lose my NCB but I think it would be really worrying if I had a cancelled policy to my name too. Especially when I knew nothing about it.. the policy is literally only 1 day old as well it's been a horrible stressful day and I hope I can sort things out tomorrow. This all unravelled when my current insurer asked for my old insurers details to get the NCB bonus from them. they then told me that I had no claims which totally baffled me. I would not be stupid enough to lie about all of those things and think they wont find out and hopefully they realize this if they are reasonable people. They said I am insured for 14 days so I have some time to sort it out.

I would of thought my old insurers would tell me at the time of the accident that there was a claim made for damage to the road. Rather than it being sprung on me when I go to take out a new policy.

It could take months for the costs to come through.

Again, go back and read the questions you were asked when taking out the policy. You are hoping they accept it was innocent so you need to know exactly what you were asked and answered 'no' to..

This happened in 2014, I have had no letters or anything and I also changed car after the accident with that same insurance company to finish up my policy and they mentioned nothing at all to me. Let's just hope they understand I will update the thread tomorrow and let you guys know how it goes.

Call me naive but I didn't think a scratch in the central reservation could cost as much as £7000.

"there was no claim, but I disclosed it at the time and they told me that it would not affect my future insurance"

So the insurance company were aware of the incident, and that as of the notification date there had been no claim?

No. (Your quote refers to the previous insurer being informed)

The op admits not disclosing the incident at all to the new insurer

The claim is still unsettled, surely my new insurance company will understand this as it is a reasonable mistake?

They would probably think it's reasonable to not know about the claim and the NCD, but insurance ask you if you have ever been involved in a claim or accident and the latter you were aware of. They will assume you didn't declare the accident as you didn't think they would find out without a claim. That may lead them to be distrusting of you, hence the cancellation rather than amended premium

I didn't think I needed to because there was no claim, but I disclosed it at the time and they told me that it would not affect my future insurance

The key part is when insurance ask you if you've had any accidents or claims. Not accidents with claims.

At the time that advice was given by a different insurance company.
