If she worked 16hrs per week she'd earn another £2100 approx but only lose around £1000 in tax credits.

Or work 30hrs and earn £17,000 more.

Thanks for that I will let her know.
If you change nothing, nothing will change!!
  • Hello
I have been reading through the thread with horror since all this was announced in July and have also contacted my MP. I am self employed and pay myself the NMW for 30 hours a week as sometimes I earn more but other times less. My husband was claiming ESA WRAG for 14 years following a serious accident at work. When the benefit changes came into force in 2012 he lost his ESA and gets a nil payment - credits only, as I earned over the £110 per week limit so I have to financially support him as well as my Daughter age 13.
I spoke to my MP at the time who told me I would get more in WTC to make up for the £110 my husband had lost!
So now these are also being cut I worked out I would be around £1500 worse off per year, could anyone confirm if I am correct. Gross wage approx £10296 for year 2015/2016. One child age 13, no childcare etc.
I have signed petitions, contacted my MP etc but now have no idea what to do.
    Thanks in advance.

Yes £1500 sounds right. If you rent, you might be able to get housing benefit/LHA, or more HB/LHA if you already get it.
  • Thank you for the quick replies.
I have a mortgage of £430 per month and council tax of £120 so no help with these either. Will have to wait and see what happens in the Commons next week, lets hope there are some sort of amendments as this is disgraceful. I can see this turning into the poll tax issue for the conservative party!

Thatcher said she would go "on and on". Cameron has already said he is leaving before the next election.
  • Hello. I am trying to work out how much money I will lose next april. Every calc gives a difference answer. My hubby earns £23400 p.a. I receive carers allowance. We have 2 kids under 14 yr old both on dla, one highest rate care one middle rate. We do not get working tax credits or housing benefit this year. But I rely on my child tax. So far I am lead to believe through various calculators for 2016/17 i will either lose all child tax or £2294.20 a year. Either way not good. Hubbys overtime is varied and not guaranteed. How are we to meet rent £475 this year and council tax £170 food car school dinners/uniform clothes shoes bills in general? Do we just say stop growing! Stop needing heat food stuff for school! get rid of car declare bankruptcy because we cant afford bills? Why are this government hell bent on killing us. The services for our autistic kids have been dwindled to nothing and now we are not going to be able to live. I am crushed and dispirited.
  • Two questions. 1. Is there any site with a calculator to work out 2016-17 credits. 2. If not how much will me and my wife get/ loose. I work 40hrs pw 18500 per year wife works 5hrs pw 1500 per year. 2 children aged both aged 10. Thanks in advance. So complicated system.
