For my tariff that would cost £211 and with Ebico £309, 46% dearer. Use a comparison site and see how much you could save.

According to UKPower compare site, I'd save £36 with Scottish Power Online Fixed July 2016. At the most.

Have you clicked the "all tariffs" button and not just the ones they can switch you to, that tariff is only 15th cheapest for me

I've used 5949 KWh in the last 12 months.
That is far and away way above a low enough usage to justify Ebico.

Oh, well. It's your £100 per year. (Well, Ebico's £100, now.)

Gas only, all tariffs, pay on receipt of bill.

Why pay on receipt of bill? Is that worth spending an extra £137 to you?

I understand on a usage of 2,000 kWh then paying £0 over summer is worth paying only an extra fiver on a winter bill. But paying £50 or £60 extra twice a year on your much higher usage is silly.

You should look at the quarterly direct-debit options - that may be a useful hybrid. That is paid on actual reads and gives you the same price per kWh as monthly direct debit but avoids computer-led fluctuations.

What's bad about this is the way the media mis-report it.

AIUI BG is planning to cut its more expensive tariffs only. In their usual, incompetent, lazy, manner the media are failing to make this clear. Rather than do their job and research the story, they just lap up and repeat BG's version. Journalism at its worst.

Could you explain your concerns a little more please?

I originally started this thread and linked directly to the BG news article.

MSE then did their own version of the story (linked to in this thread) which spells out the situation in more detail.
The price cut will apply to all customers on British Gas's standard gas tariff – including those on a prepayment meter and dual fuel customers, though there's no change to electricity prices. Those on British Gas's Fix & Fall tariffs, which are guaranteed to prevent price rises but unlike traditional fixes do benefit from price cuts, will also benefit from the cut.

However the price cut won't apply to customers on British Gas' fixed tariffs (Fix and Reward, and Fixed Price August 2016).

Which other tariffs have MSE failed to refer to in their "usual incompetent, lazy, manner"?

MSE advise people to consult a comparison site to find the best deal for them. (They actually push their own CEC, powered by MoneySuperMarket, but what else can you expect when they own this site now)

BG do not have any early exit fees on their current range of tariffs, so if you have fixed but now find a cheaper option, either with BG or anyone else, you can transfer/switch with no additional cost.

BG are still £75 more expensive than Zog (current provider) for my usage and region. So I won't be returning to them.
