Hi everyone apologies if this question has been asked before
I'm moving house with 3 months to go on my contract
Can virgin force me to enter a new 12 month contract without the option of seeing out the remainder of my contract at the new address? With the only alternative to pay an early cancellation fee
It's almost as if companies like virgin do things like this to make us want to leave them

Thanks

Simply put yes they can. They have recuperate their losses. They have to pay an engineer to come to install the service to new place.

If the new address has access to VM you can probably get the contract moved over to it.

If it has no access to VM services then you'll probably have to pay the early termination fee as it's not their fault you're moving to an address where they can't serve you and you're still in contract.

No, they do things like this to stop you leaving them. Why would they incur all the considerable costs of provisioning a service at the new address, only for you to cancel 3 months later?

At least they have a sense a sense of humour after debating the issue with them they always ask you to recommend a friend!
Sky and BT manage ok letting people see out their current contract at the new address.
I've also got to pay £20 to "help towards the cost of moving" on top of being strongarmed into a new 12 month contract.

Are you sure about Sky and BT? Almost all providers do a free home move service, but the trade off is that you enter a new minimum term contract of 12 or 18m. Pretty much standard.

My friend has just moved house with Sky and he's been allowed to see out his remaining 4 months at his new address.
I'm pretty sure Bt is the same

When I moved I had to take out a new 12 month contract with BT for my landline. They wouldn't re-activate the existing line for me without one. A man in a BT van came to my house to sort it out.

    From the BT website:

What will happen to my contract term if I move?

If you want telephone service at your new address, a new 12-month contract term will always apply for the telephone line.
Any un-used portion of Line Rental Saver that you paid at your old address, and any remaining contract term on a telephone calling plan will both carry over to your new address. Any term remaining on your existing broadband contract will be transferred to your new address if you take the same service there.
However, if the term on your broadband contract is less than three months, a new three-month contact will apply at your new address.

Sky do not start you on a new contract unless you change your tariff or bundle.
