How do I get signed off for Depression?

I want to be signed off for depression, but everytime I try to get signed off the Doctors block me and wont sign me off. Or they just sign me off for a few months at a time. Yet I have seen other people get signed off permanently for the same reason.
My question is how to get signed off permanently for depression if the doctors stop me from doing so? (I'm single male no children)
I am tired of Job seaching with no real hope of getting a good paid job. Its a mugs game to continually apply for jobs I am never going to be able to do. I would rather get signed off and do voluntary work instead.

The days of people getting permanently signed off on the sick are finished, Normally the doctor issues a 13 week sick line and after this period you get sent for a Medical and they decide what you're fit to do.
They don't look at how sick you are now, They look to see what you can actually do. And from that it sounds you aren't really clinically depressed you just want on the sick because you're tired of the JSA requirements. Has you're doctor prescribed anti-depressants?0 -
try another doctors possibly but I don't think ANY doctor would sign you off for ever for depression and in your own doctors opinion its not severe enoughEx forum ambassador

Op all your posts seem to be almost repeating the same thing.
What sort of job are you looking for ? You say others are younger and better qualified, how old are you and what have you done in the past ? Could you go back to College or even evening classes and get some better qualifications.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

There is a number of things I would do if in the same position as yourself :-
Check all social media pages used for anything untoward, Even prior to interview stage you will be surprised how many potential employers will refuse to even consider a possible new placement if they post anything untoward.
Check with independent Companies for openings even if not listed anywhere as they may have something just come up and not posted.
If you can afford to and again it has been done before offer to do a day/week or something that suits for free with a view for a potential employer to see what skills you can add to the Company they run.
Wear a placard saying job required listing skills in brief and waiting at busy intersections, roads and so on leading to large employers, Again done before with good results by people.
Maybe look at charity work that you can start with a view to get qualified into a paying post.
Come up with something original on a cv and make sure it stands out from others.
Loads more options out there just be creative and think to yourself what can I bring to the table of any potential employer.0 -
Maybe actually getting depression, needing to take a cocktail of pills daily, losing a third of your weight, being unable to function normally day to day and being on the brink of no return may actually help your cause.0

agreed, my wife had it years ago, was awful for her.
And the OP wants to sham the GOVT out of taxpayers money using this illness....Plan: [STRIKE]Finish off paying the remainder of my debts[/STRIKE].

Did you watch that Panorama programme about the health service last night ?
The doctor was talking to one guy who had Depression and he told him what he needed to do was change his lifestyle and get out to the gym; swimming; or even do some walking rather than sit doing nothing. .... The man answered, i can't do anything like that, i can't be bothered, can i just have some pills.
I feel depressed at times but i know nothing about real Depression but would imagine if you find something to do to occupy your mind you'd have less time to think about how bad life is.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Easier said than done SailorSam. I've had chronic depression for 20yrs, I know getting out and doing positive things will help but I frequently just can't drag myself to them usually. Then feel worse for having not done things I promised I would try to makes me worse and less likely to try again. Horrid circles. I frequently wish there was a magic pill to make it go away, but theres not. The OPs doc at least can see a workshy fake.
Liverpools idea sounds great but its just another way for them to not spend and make cuts. Tell us to take care of ourselves so they dont have to. When often people need help taking care of themselves.0 -

The problem is with severe depression, getting out and doing things often does not help at all.
Especially if it is prescribed 'the open air should make you feel good' - and it does nothing.0
