I'm "between" houses, could I apply for a credit card ?

I've sold my old house and living with a friend waiting for my new house to be built. I'm looking for a credit card with 0% interest on purchases for 18-24 months to buy new household items (just a bit of stoozing really:money:).
I've got perfect credit history with no other current credit but have been declined for the Santander 1-2-3 card:mad:, and suspect it may be due to:-
1. Santander being extra picky with their criteria
2. my details not yet being updated on the electoral register
3. me only living at current address for a month
4. lenders not giving credit to people with mortgage applications approved and deposits yet to be paid, perhaps to avoid applicants using credit for this ? (my mortgage is approved and contracts exchanged, just waiting for completion)
If it's item 1 then I'm confident I could apply sucessfully with Virgin or Halifax.
If it's items 2 or 4 I'll have to wait until I've moved, although if it's No 3 I might have to wait a while after that which will not sit well with [STRIKE]my wife and her[/STRIKE] (sorry.....mine:A) expensive requirements in furnishings.
I'd prefer to get the card ASAP but as I've just been declined I don't want to apply again only to have a string of rejections on my credit file.
If anyone can upgrade my speculation to first hand knowledge I would be gratefully appreciative !!!

It could be any of the above, the electoral register probably being the biggest issue.
However, if the money has not yet transferred to the solicitor for your mortgage, you should not be applying for additional credit. They are likely to do another credit search prior to releasing funds and it may cause issues if anything has changed.0 -
OK thank you!
Looks like I'll have to wait until the purchase has completed.
My solictor has contacted me to say that they require proof that the deposit is being paid from money already in account and also not by card, which again hints to a hiatus on additional credit during the purchase process.0
