Help! MBNA recorded 32 late payments!

I'm not sure on the late payment fees. I never checked the statements, I opted for paperless statements. I just used the card and assumed like an idiot that because I wasn't receiving any mail or calls the direct debit was doing its thing. MBNA are sending me all my statements in the post, should be here within the next few days.
It's definitely a direct debit, not a standing order. My bank statements say direct debit in the type column for all the payments.0 -
